It's almost the end of December and Netflix is treating viewers with a captivating new movie this New Year. 'The Lost Daughter' is an upcoming psychological drama that is based on the novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante.

Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson take the lead in the film that looks like a hauntingly brilliant watch. The trailer showcases the rollercoaster of emotions that the protagonist Leda goes through when she becomes worryingly fascinated with a young mother and her daughter who she comes across on her beach vacation. The Netflix film also marks the directorial debut of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and if psychological thrillers are what excite you, then do check out 'You' and 'Hypnotic' as well.

What is 'The Lost Daughter' about?

According to Netflix: 'Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. Unnerved by their compelling relationship, (and their raucous and menacing extended family), Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood. An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.'

Who stars in the Netflix drama?

Olivia Colman is a popular English actress who has a number of accolades to her name and that include Gloden Globe Awards to an Academy Award and more. Some of her critically acclaimed roles include Angela Burr from the hit BBC series 'The Night Manager' and  Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix's 'The Crown'. She was also part of 'Murder on the Orient Express', 'Landscapers' and 'The Father' in more recent times. She will play the protagonist Leda in 'The Lost Daughter'.



 

The rest of the cast comprises of Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey), Jessie Buckley (The Courier), Ed Harris (Westworld), Peter Sarsgaard (Dopesick), Paul Mescal (Normal People), Dagmara Dominczyk (Succession), and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House).
