Jake Gyllenhaal is undoubtedly one of the finest actors in Hollywood currently and has given many award-worthy performances. It’s unfortunate that he wasn’t recognized at award ceremonies for his stellar performances in movies like ‘Nightcrawler’, ‘Prisoners’ and most recently, ‘Stronger’. But he has been turning into an actor that is loved by one and all.

Gyllenhaal is set to enthrall viewers again with a gritty performance in the upcoming Netflix movie ‘The Guilty’. The story revolves around a 911 call operator named Joe Baylor (Jake Gyllenhaal), who receives a mysterious phone call one morning that changes everything for him. Baylor does everything to save the caller but as he talks more and more with the caller, he gets to know that the only way to get out of this situation is to learn the truth.

Netflix adds Gyllenhaal as the latest Hollywood A-listers to work with the streaming giant. Other actors like Michael Keaton, Jason Momoa, Will Smith, and Brad Pitt have also worked with the streaming platform in the recent past and enjoyed a lot of success. The streaming service will be hoping to get a lot of viewers from ‘The Gulity’ as well.

Release date and how to watch

The movie had its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and will be hitting Netflix on Friday, October 1. According to the Netflix press site, the movie will be premiering exclusively at 3:01 am EST. Viewers can download the app via Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store to watch the movie.

Plot

“The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger—but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.”

The movie already had its premiere at the TIFF and garnered positive reviews from the critics. The reviews have praised Gyllenhaal’s powerful performance and it is his performance that keeps the movie fresh. Such glowing reviews for Gyllenhaal’s acting will surely make his fans excited for the upcoming movie.

Cast

Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing the lead role of Joe Baylor in the movie. The actor has been a part of the entertainment industry since 1991 and garnered success in the early and mid-2000s with movies like ‘Donnie Darko’, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain’, for which he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor accolade at the Academy Awards. Since then, he has given stupendous performances in projects such as ‘Zodiac’, ‘Source Code’, ‘Prisoners’, ‘Nightcrawler’, ‘Okja’, ‘Stronger’, and ‘Spider-man: Far from Home’.

Meanwhile, Christina Vidal will be portraying the character of Sergeant Denise Wade and Adrian Martinez will be seen as Manny.



 

The voice cast of the movie includes the likes of Ethan Hawke (Sergeant Bill Miller), Riley Keough (Emily Lighton), Paul Dano (Matthew Fontenot), and Peter Sarsgaard (Henry Fisher).

Creators

The movie is based on the Dutch movie of the same name directed by Gustav Moller. Meanwhile, the English version has been helmed by Antoine Fuqua, who is known for directing movies such as ‘Training Day’, ‘Olympus Has Fallen’, ‘The Equalizer’, and ‘The Magnificent Seven’.

This is his second movie with Gyllenhaal after 2015’s drama ‘Southpaw’. Apart from Gyllenhaal and Fuqua, notable names like Riva Marker, David Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Haring, Michael Litvak, Svetlana Metkina, Scott Greenburg, and Kat Samick serve as producers on the movie.

The trailer of the movie is filled with mystery and seems it’s going to be one helluva ride. Joe Baylor’s (Gyllenhaal) day is going as usual when he receives a mysterious call from a woman who has someone in her car and is not friendly. The woman hangs up the phone because she thinks she’s going to die. Baylor tries to rescue that woman but nothing is going his way as air support is grounded due to wildfire.

The woman’s name is Emily (Riley Keough) and the man with her is Henry (Peter Sarsgaard). Will he be able to save Emily? That’s one thing we will know about when the movie releases. You can watch the trailer here.
