‘The Great American Baking Show’ Season 5 Episode 4: Fans rejoice as Brother Andrew wins the finale
The greatest and grandest baking show of the season finally comes to an end with three amateur bakers making it to the finals. After four weeks of grueling challenges and several fine goodies later, contestants Brother Andrew from Washington DC, Dana Commandatore from LA, and Marissa Troeschel from Portland, survived through the final rounds.
With their artistic baking skills, creative recipes, and personal touch to classic confections, each of these amateur bakers saw their share of ups and downs. If Brother Andrew became the star baker in the second week, he was replaced by Dana in the third. He had even reached a point where the fans feared that he might be cut off from the show in the third week, despite all his attempts to keep himself in the competition. The competition among the three was close and they were neck to neck with their performances.
However, in the final round, the judging parameters had gone up and there was more to their dishes than just ingenuity. Judges and master chefs Sherri Yard and Paul Hollywood went beyond the recipes per se and focused on the technicality, understanding baking secrets and implementing them, and most importantly, assess bakers on how far they could think outside the box, even with traditional recipes.
Weighing all past performances and the final round of each contestant’s original recipe, the judges found Brother Andrew to be the best of the final three. He had evolved over the weeks, learning from his mistakes and pushing his limits every time.
As @miggycash Tweets, “Brother Andrew! So happy he took it home, so well deserved 🙏🏽@GABakingShow #americanbakingshow #capuchinfriars”
So does @IInspired, “Replying to @GABakingShow, “Yes, Congrats Brother Andrew, well deserved!! #AmericanBakingShow 👏” @melgotserved agrees saying, “I’m very pleased with the winner of the #AmericanBakingShow!!”

@MultiversalDork admires each of the finalists, the winner, as well as the show. He says, “Congratulations to Brother Andrew on that hard-earned victory! And congratulations to Dana, Marissa and everybody in that tent, bakers, judges, hosts and crew, for a wonderful competition. What a great season and a marvelous way to start this new year. #AmericanBakingShow.”
And we couldn’t agree more. For one month, we cherished the gastronomic joyride with 10 amateur but brilliant bakers and some of the most delectable baked recipes that were visually delightful, making this holiday season a truly special one.
‘The Great American Baking Show’ will be back next year, around the same time, with a brand new season full of food, fun, and competition.
