Spoilers for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 14

Richard Hunter (Sam Page) and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) have been through a lot. After four seasons of 'will they, won't they', writers of the show finally gave into fans' wishes and brought them together. At the end of Season 4A, the two tied the knot in a dreamy ceremony. But their happiness wasn't long-lived.

When the show returned with the second half of Season 4, Sutton found out that she was pregnant. But when she miscarried, she was relieved to know that she won't be a mother any time soon. At first, everyone (even Sutton herself) thought she was relieved because she could now focus on her career and then come back to motherhood when the time was right. Richard even supported her with that, at 41 years of age he froze his sperm for the foreseeable future.

But in the previous episode, Sutton finally realizes that she doesn't want children at all — not in five years as they had planned, not ever. She breaks this news to him rather suddenly. It was that very morning when she asked Richard for some time and promised to start a family sooner or later. But in the night, she tells him that they have everything they could need and/ or ask for, why children?

To say that Richard is shocked doesn't even cut it. He is more betrayed than anything else. Betrayed of a future that he had long pictured for himself, a future with a family with Sutton. He has been more than understanding and accommodating of Sutton. Over the course of their relationship, he has sacrificed and adjusted a lot. From the time when he had to move to San Francisco to Sutton's constantly changing career goals, if anything, Richard has molded his life decisions to align with Sutton's.

One could very well argue that a conversation about children and family planning is one reserved for before marriage. And you could very well blame both parties for not doing so. However, Richard has always made it clear that he wants children. Sutton, on the other hand, never said she didn't want a family.

This might be the final straw and perhaps the couple is headed towards a break-up, and rightly so. No one deserves to put their life and dreams on hold the way Sutton expects Richard to do.

'The Bold Type' airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET /PT on Freeform.
