'The Bold Type' season 4 episode 11: Fans get emotional about Jane recovering from double mastectomy

At its core, Freeform's hit series 'The Bold Type' is a workplace drama that revolves around three colleagues who, over the course of time, not only become the best of friends but develop a camaraderie more akin to sisterhood. Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) and Sutton Brady's (Meghann Fahy) sisterhood is not just on the show -- the actresses also happen to be really close friends in real life -- it extends through the screen to the series' fandom.
The very fandom tonight finds itself in extremely high spirits as the show returned for the second half of its fourth season with 'Leveling Up'. We catch up with the trio just a few months after the events of the last season and each one of them is going through a crisis.
But it really is Jane's struggle that resonated with the show's viewers. Recovering from a double mastectomy is not easy and the show begins with a heartwarming montage that shows Jane overcome the hurdles of post-surgery.
"My mother went through both mastectomy and restorative surgery and those scenes brought tears to my eyes. You really are doing such a wonderful job with this storyline," tweeted a fan. "2 seconds in and I'm already crying. Lol. I love the friendships in this show," added another. Stevens even won props from the audience for her performance through what is often a traumatising experience for women. "You were amazing. I felt every emotion."
Many viewers were touched at a more intimate level. "I have to go for genetic testing soon. This show has gotten me through it. This journey has been the one I can rely on the most," tweeted one.
Apart from Jane, Kat finds herself in a tight spot looking for a job to pay the bills. And Sutton, who only recently got her dream promotion, might be facing another hurdle ahead of her. Either way, the episode had every fan sufficiently excited. "tonight’s episode of the bold type has had me on the edge of my seat the entire time," tweeted a fan.
