Charity Lawson is 'smitten' by her batch of suitors

In an interview with ET Charity opened up about her experience after the first night on 'The Bachelorette.' The star claimed, "It was a good one." When asked whether Charity has gotten used to being the lead of 'The Bachelorette,' the star said, "It is insane to say. I feel like the more I say it the more it sinks in a little bit more. But I think after getting the night one in the books, I mean that definitely kind of allowed me to sit in the role of truly feeling like 'The Bachelorette'." Indeed, the star is taking her time to get used to the feeling of being the lead of the show.

Charity further explains her night one experience, saying, "I'm a little giddy, definitely smitten." She further praised her batch of boys, "I have I should say a good, good batch of boys."

Charity Lawson came in 'The Bachelorette' a little alarmed

The African American accepted that she "came in with little alarms wanting to go off." She  added that her nerves are "easing their way out" after she has met the men. Charity further stated how shocked she was after learning that she was going to be the next Bachelorette. The star said, "I had no idea that it was going to be me. I was totally shocked." "I'm so grateful and so fortunate to be here," the star added. Charity is also grateful to be the fourth Black Bachelorette. The star said, "When I was told that I was going to be the next Bachelorette, that was one of the first things that I immediately thought of. To step into this role as the fourth woman of color and the second monoracial African American Bachelorette, it's huge."

Charity feels the pressure of "carrying the whole community" along with herself who are looking up to her for representation. Soon after being selected for 'The Bachelorette' Charity informed her brother. She calls his brother her "best friend," saying, "He is literally, like, my best friend. He still is protective. He has his guard up about all of this, but I know that he's in my corner all the way. He left me with some fantastic advice and I'm gonna have him with me in spirit throughout this whole process." Her brother has advised the star to stay alert with "some bold personalities" and "stay true" to herself as well as her intuitions.

What are the qualities Charity Lawson looks for in a man?

The three things that Charity keeps on priority while looking out for her dates are confidence, good communication skills, and a humorous personality. She wants to go with someone who can "let their walls down and be their true selves and hold nothing back." However, the star's number one deal breaker is "dishonesty." Charity is obviously looking out for a proposal and a husband but she also wants to continue growing as a person. The star says, "This role is gonna challenge me in a lot, in just my decisiveness of having to make decisions which I know I already have to do that."

Charity believes that trusting her heart can be a little tricky in the show. She explains, "I really do value people sacrificing their time to be here and I really wanna look out for that but at the end of the day, I've to... in order to get to the end goal of the proposal, like have to do that." Despite all the confusion, Charity believes that her journey is going to be a "good one."

'The Bachelorette' Season 20 will premiere on April 10, 2023, on ABC.
