'The Alienist: Angel of Darkness' Season 2 Finale: Thomas Byrnes tortures Libby, miffed fans 'hope he dies'
Libby Hatch might seem like all kinds of crazy, but she has a broken and dark past to blame for it. In 'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness', Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), John Moore (Luke Evans) and Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) track down Libby's mother, They find out that Libby was abandoned by her mother as a child and then had her baby taken away from her. As a result, Libby progressively became more deranged over the years and resorted to kidnapping other people's babies as well as turning into a child-murderer.
While the trio wonders how to close in on Libby, who has escaped from their clutches more than once, former NYPD commissioner Thomas Byrnes (Ted Levine) comes up with a rather dubious plan to coax her out of hiding. He schemes to use Libby's daughter Clara as bait, much to Sara's fury. However, they forget that Libby might be crazy, but she is 10 times smarter than they give her credit for.
This scheme sends Libby on a rampage and she sends a decoy. Oh wait, she also kills one of the cops who actually turned his back on her for a couple of seconds. Who turns their back on a psychotic serial killer? Nevertheless, fans are furious with Byrnes and are praying for him to rot in hell. In the finale, after they capture Libby, Byrnes also tries to torture Libby to reveal information, but that doesn't work either.
