'The Acolyte' Episode 4: Why mysterious accomplice Qimir may be hiding something
Contains spoilers and speculation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 4 premiered on Disney+ on June 18, 2024, and the thrilling episode ended with a cliffhanger about who the mysterious masked Sith lord is. As speculations are rife about the identity of this mysterious Sith master, we noticed an intriguing development that might offer some clues about the identity of the Sith master.
'The Acolyte' is based a century before the events of 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' and sees the rise of the dark side with Mae (Amandla Stenberg) going on a killing spree to kill four Jedi Masters. Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung jae) along with Mae's twin sister Osha have the task of stopping Mae in her tracks but by the end of the fourth episode, three out of her four targets are already dead.
Qimir (Manny Jacinto) has been an accomplice for Mae in her quest to kill the four Jedi masters but his actions have given fuel to speculations that there might be more than meets the eye when it comes to his identity.
Who is Qimir?
Qimir introduces himself as a smuggler who became a disciple of the Sith. He is a chirpy character who has a continuous smile on his face. In the fourth episode, we see Mae and Qimir having a disagreement.
When Mae has a change of heart and wants to rethink her decision to kill Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo), Qimir's demeanor has a sudden change as he argues with Mae and vehemently tries to convince her to kill Kelnacca.
Mae traps Qimir and leaves only to find Kelnacca dead using a lightsaber. By the time the Jedi appear, we see the masked Sith lord already there confronting them.
Why Qimir may be the Sith Lord
Many instances point to Qimir being the Sith Lord. When Mae fails to kill Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman), Qimir divulges important details about him and also arranges for the poison that ultimately kills Torbin.
Then, he guides Mae to Khofar where Kelnacca is and that begs the question about the source of his knowledge about Torbin and Kelnacca, both Mae's targets.
The final piece of the puzzle may be in Episode 4 when we see everyone except Qimir in the final scene when the Jedi take on the masked Sith. We see everyone there except for Qimir who is trapped earlier by Mae.
If Qimir is indeed the Sith Lord, the move to shadow his apprentice does make a lot of sense for him, it might eventually turn out to be a red-herring but all evidence seems to be pointing at Qimir.
It could be possible though, that he is indeed a loyal apprentice of the Sith lord and reports every action of Mae to him. The identity is likely to be revealed in Episode 5.
