Internet gets the collective icks as Sultan of Brunei's daughter Princess Azemah marries first cousin
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI: The daughter of the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah wed her first cousin in a lavish ceremony held in her father's palace. The week-long wedding festivities for Princess Azemah, 38, and Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah began on January 8 in the independent sultanate on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. The sultan's brother, Prince Jefri Bolkiah, is the father of Prince Bahar. Seven ceremonies were held after the lavish series of events got underway in the banquet hall of Palace Istana Nurul Iman, the sultan's formal residence.
A three-day wedding ceremony, the exchange of customary gifts, the display of the royal insignia, and a meal reception were among them. Prince Mateen, the bride's younger brother, posted pictures from the final wedding ceremony and the Powdering Ceremony, which took place on January 15, giving followers a glimpse into the wedding. “So happy for my dearest big sister and BJB,” he captioned the images.

The Internet reactions
However, the internet seems to be not so pleased with the wedding ceremony as several users on social media came out and expressed their disgust over the news. One user wrote, “All those men in Brunei and she has to marry her first cousin?? Disgusting.” “This is worrisome, wt* is going on in the world??? It's funny, cos the world isn't lacking males, leave your first cousin and marry someone else, that's away from your family,” another added.
Someone noted, “Yuck...there are too many people on the planet to be marrying your first cousin...So you share the same grandparents??.. That's gross and I wonder what birth defects and diseases the family already has from inbreeding.” Another wondered, “Won't there be an issue with birth defects?” “But they murdered the younger child, Prince Azim because he was gay,” another added. “My first cousins just came to mind & the mere thought of having one of them as my husband is just gross,” yet another user remarked.
