Two adults and 19 children were gunned down after an 18-year-old shooter opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, May 24. The teen gunman, who has been identified as Salvador Ramos, was later shot down by the cops, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Out of the many victims, a fourth-grade teacher named Eva Mireles died in the unfortunate incident, as reported by the New York Post. Mireles worked for the Uvalde school district for 17 years before she was shot and killed by Salvador Ramos. While all the victims of the Texas shooting are yet to be identified, it was also revealed that a 10-year-old kid too died in the mass shooting. According to multiple reports, Salvador Ramos headed to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with two assault rifles around 11:32 am after shooting his grandmother.

Who was Xavier Lopez?

Xavier Lopez is the latest victim to be identified in the horrific Texas shooting. According to a tweet by Dillon Collier, a photo of the young kid was shared on the micro-blogging site. It has been revealed that he was a fourth grader at Robb Elementary. The tweet revealed that his death was confirmed by his family. Others who were injured were rushed to hospitals in San Antonio. According to KSAT, his mother was with him at the school during an awards ceremony just hours before the shooting. A girl, 10, and a woman, 66, were taken to University Health San Antonio, the only Level 1 trauma center for both adults and children in the region, in critical condition.

‘Every time a tragedy like this happens, our hearts break’

Joe Biden got furious over the latest Texas massacre asking Americans to stand up to the gun lobby and pressure members of Congress to pass sensible gun law. He continued, “As a nation, we have to ask, when in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?” adding “When in God's name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?"
According to CBS, Vice President Kamala Harris called for policy changes at an event. “I would normally say in a moment like this- we would all say, naturally, that our hearts break. But our hearts keep getting broken," said Harris. She added, “You know, I think- there are so many elected leaders in this room, you know what I'm talking about: Every time a tragedy like this happens, our hearts break and our broken hearts are nothing compared to the broken hearts of those families. And yet it keeps happening."

Selena Gomez too took to Twitter and said, “Today in my home state of Texas 18 innocent students were killed while simply trying to get an education. A teacher killed doing her job; an invaluable yet sadly under appreciated job. If children aren’t safe at school where are they safe?” Another used the hashtag ‘#wearetired’ and said, “I’m still trying to understand why 2 weeks ago 10 ppl were killed in a Buffalo grocery store & today 18 children and 1 adult were killed at an elementary school in Texas. As a parent, I’m heartbroken! Gun Laws must be changed. Mental Illness is real! This is not ok.”
