SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: On Christmas Day, Rudy Esparza was arrested after he allegedly choked his girlfriend after watching a television show showcasing infidelity.

According to a report by Daily Mail, the 36-year old man from San Antonio, Texas, was watching a television show with his girlfriend. The show explored the theme of infidelity and eventually got Esparza quite worked up.

As his girlfriend lay in bed after watching the show, he got increasingly agitated with her and attacked her.

In a fit of aggression, he allegedly held his girlfriend in a chokehold and started to choke her. The girlfriend later reported to the police that she had "curled up in a ball" after the chokehold, fearing that Esparza would hit her or assault her further.

The arrest affidavit carried the same statement from Esparza's 40-year old girlfriend and included that she lay in bed and Esparza choked her from behind. He reportedly applied pressure to her neck with both hands, making it difficult for her to breathe, the statement added.

Esparza and his girlfriend have been in a relationship for six years. He gave his statement to the police claiming that he was "wrestling" with his girlfriend at the time the incident was reported in the hope that the allegations will not hold ground.

However, choking falls under the classification of a second-degree felony and Esparza has been considered a suspect in the case. He has had a long history of prior violence. An affidavit that came to light states that Esparza has been convicted of three instances of family violence in the past.

After this incident was reported by his girlfriend, Esparza was detained and charged with assault and family violence by the police. However, he was bailed out after he posted a bail amount set at $40,000.
