'Ted Lasso' Season 2 Episode 9: Coach Beard gets badly injured after being beaten up
‘Ted Lasso’ Season 2 is standing on a very interesting corner. The Richmond FC has lost the semi-final game against Manchester City in the FA Cup and the entire team is hurting, including the coaching staff. However, we also saw Ted opening about the thing that has been bothering him and giving him panic attacks.
Ted revealed that his father killed himself when he was really young and it has been haunting him. In the final moments of the previous episode, Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) was seen going out of the stadium and spending some time alone. He wanted to have some time alone just to get his head straight. Ted told Beard that he needs to be careful because tomorrow he and the team need him.

The coach can’t stop thinking about the game and wherever he goes, people are talking about the game they just lost. He returns home and opens TV and sees football legend Thierry Henry speaking about the game. Coach Beard stats hallucinating that Henry is belittling him and telling him that he is nobody, making him feel really bad.
He gets out for a drink and meets some fans. Now, he wants to have fun and he takes out three fans with him to a fancy club for an amazing night out. But everything changes, when she sees a lady at the club. Meanwhile, he is also fighting the urge to join his love, Jane. After a fun night, Coach Beard gets his trousers a bit messy due to a nail and as he gets out of the club, he meets the woman who invites him to her house and she’ll stitch her pants for him. But her husband finds out and he runs away.
He manages to divert the trouble by jumping off the roof and going into a dark alley. But, he meets Jamie Tartt’s father and some of his friends there. They get into a scuffle and Coach Beard gets badly beaten up by them. He is on the verge of getting badly injured because Tartt’s father has an iron rod in his hands. But, the woman’s husband comes there and saves Coach Beard from those guys.
The episode ends with Beard finally meeting Jane in a club and he dances his heart out with her and enjoying the night. The next day, he meets Ted, Roy, and Nathan in the office and they are talking about the game.
The episode gave us a different perspective about Coach Beard and this is the first time we have seen Jason Sudeikis appear on an episode for just 20-30 seconds. It was a great episode and an amazing thing to show different perspectives.
