Democrats claimed that gun violence in America is a "public health crisis" similar to the coronavirus pandemic as Texas Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday slammed the effort from the left to strip 'law abiding citizens' of their 2nd Amendment right in the wake of two mass shootings in the last weel, accusing them of taking part in “ridiculous theater.”

“Every time there’s a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater, where this committee gets together and proposes a bunch of laws that would do nothing to stop these murders,” Cruz said during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence on Tuesday.

“What happens in this committee after every mass shooting is Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens because that’s their political objective,” the senator added. “But what they propose, not only does it not reduce crime, it makes it worse.”

Prominent Democrats have been calling for gun control legislation following a shooting at King Soopers, a Boulder, Colorado supermarket on Monday that left 10 people dead. The shooter, Ahmad al Aliwi Alissa, 21, has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder.

'Morally bankrupt'

"Ted Cruz is morally bankrupt," said angry Twitterati, while another added: "Ted Cruz, lover of Mass Killing. Lover of The Big Lie. Someone in history shares these values." Pretty disgusting that the Senate coward, Ted Cruz, considers mass shooting victims "political theater" when his entire political career is a f*****g joke," said a tweet.

"Ted Cruz would be the type to bring his guns to the Prayer Room at Parliament House & shoot all the #LNP people in there having sex with prostitutes. Ironic, considering he & the LNP’s Politics are identical. #auspol #LNPfail #Trump #Treason #ScottyTheRapistProtector," said another.

'An expert in all things theatre'

"Ted Cruz uses three, as he demonstrated today. And he's an expert in all things theater, including it's pronunciation. So it's settled," a Twitter user said. "Ted Cruz is a person a only the most marginal technical sense. Everything if actual worth was extracted from him long ago. He's walking, talking shit," said a tweet. Another said, "I think Ted Cruz has serious mental disease."

There were also calls to remove Cruz and replace him with Beto O'ROurke. "I'd remove Ted Cruz and replace him with @BetoORourke," said netizens.
