Sen Ted Cruz released a disturbing video of migrant children being rounded up along the southern border on Wednesday, July 26. The video also had photos of dead young migrants. Sharing the video on Twitter, Cruz accused the Biden administration of overseeing the "worst plague of slavery in America since the Civil War".

Cruz kept up a commentary describing "narco slave trade". He directly blamed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the plight of the migrants. "These children come in in debt to vicious cartels thousands and thousands of dollars," he said, adding that "This is not compassionate. This is not humane. This is barbaric."

"The teenage boys work for the gangs in every city in America, and the teenage girls experience a hell worse than that, with far too many of them human trafficked into sex slavery," he added. "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are responsible for the worst plague of slavery in America since the Civil War."

There has been a significant increase in border crossings, with the latest estimates from the Department of Homeland Security forecast revealing that an average of 441 unaccompanied children will cross the border every year and will subsequently end up in custody.

Cruz shared the video two weeks after his visit to the border with other republicans. Their convoy of vehicles toured the area, as seen in the video. "Just past midnight this morning, I was on the border in the Rio Grande Valley and I saw firsthand the human misery caused by Joe Biden’s open borders," Cruz tweeted at the time.

Officials, however, continue to insist that the border is not open, as claimed by Republicans. "Look, the border is secure," Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado, adding that the administration was still "working to make the border more secure." "That has been a historic challenge," he added. He further explained that there is a difference between the terms "safe" and "secure".

'Yet you’re not gonna do a thing about it'

Social media users have slammed Cruz for blaming the Biden administration but doing nothing to tackle the crisis himself. "Yet you’re not gonna do a thing about it but talk," one user tweeted. "And instead of the US Senator from Texas proposing any changes to immigration policy... he tweets," wrote another. One user commented, "Mr. Senator I agree with you this needs to stop. However I dont see either party walking across the aisle and proposing solutions. I will volunteer my time and work with you to propose a comprehensive strategy to congress. Tweets without action and blame don't do any of us good."

"We know it's a problem. When are we going to stop pointing fingers, and start actually acting with compassion for these people? How is turning them back from crossing showing them compassion? What is your proposed solution @SenTedCruz!?" one user wrote, while another said, "You are in the US Senate isn't it your actual job to propose legislation for border solutions? What's your plan or is it just to place blame on the President? Serious question Senator." "If such a thing exists what are YOU doing about it??????" one user wrote.
