Maddie's life turns upside down with two of the most problematic revelations while Dana and Helen get all tangled up in situations

Season 1 of ‘Sweet Magnolias’ exceeded all expectations and gave fans some really amazing moments. So, it didn’t come as a shock when Netflix announced that the series will be returning for another edition. The biggest question that the latest season had to answer was about the accident that took place on the highway which nearly took away Kyle’s (Logan Allen) life.

So, it turns out it was Nellie (Simone Lockhart) in the car with him and they got into an accident that injured both of them. However, Kyle’s injuries were much deeper. That caused a lot of mayhem at the hospital and Ty actually fractured his left hand as well. But all eyes were on Jackson (Sam Ashby) because he was the one who was drinking and started the fight. A lot of things happen after that in the lives of Maddie (Joanna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) that makes their lives even more dramatic.

But it was Maddie who received some information that completely turned her life upside down. So, what happened? Let’s take a look at how Season 2 ended and why does the ending make way for Season 3.

‘Sweet Magnolias’ Season 2 Ending Explained: Maddie’s life turns chaotic

Now, we know that things were going fine for Maddie and Cal. They were working on their shortcomings and making their lives better. However, a piece of information from his ex-husband Bill Townsend made her furious. Bill calls her to his house and tells her to sit down. He is nervous and doesn’t know how to tell her.

Eventually, he tells her that before they were a couple, he had a fling with Peggy Martin (Brittany L. Smith) and it turns out that Isaac is actually his son. Yes, Isaac is Bill’s son and he didn’t know about it. Maddie is absolutely furious at him and asks him how many more lives he will ruin with his actions. Bill blames himself for the situation and says, “I do repent.”

Maddie, who is still furious at him, forgives her and says that she is letting him go into the hands of God. She leaves the house and meets Isaac the next day. She lets him know that he had a word with Bill and she knows that he is Bill’s son.

They hug each other as Maddie tells Isaac that they’ll talk later.

During the final episode, we see Ryan returning and talking with Helen. They were talking when Ryan held his hand and said how stupid he has been all his life to not live his life freely and always worry about things that didn’t matter. He also revealed that he didn’t spend much time with Aunt Frances and he regrets that.

Helen is confused and asks him what does he wants to say. Ryan says that he is ready to have children and start a new life. Helen is crushed after hearing that and starts crying. Ryan leaves after saying that they’ll talk afterward.

The episode ends with Ryan coming to meet Helen for a couple of minutes. However, he surprises her by going down to one knee and popping the question with a beautiful ring. The episode ends with Helen shocked and looking at the ring.

Dana Sue and Ronnie did have a troubled relationship and Dana kicked him out of the house. But it seems Ronnie has found his way to Dana’s heart in the series. Ronnie is now taking his passion seriously and starts building new things. Meanwhile, during a conversation with Maddie and Helen, Dana realizes that she has made some mistakes as well. She is starting to see the hope that things will turn out well.

Later in the episode, Dana and Ronnie come together for the therapy and that’s when Dana gives him a surprise by giving him the truck he was repairing. Ronnie was so happy after seeing that and started crying. Dana told him that his truck, his workshop, and his place in her bed are still here. She welcomes him back to the house and they get together.

The next day, they tell Annie that they are getting back together and she gets really emotional after hearing that.

Cal had a troubled past, but he has come a long way now. Now, Mary Vaughn is trying to blackmail him with the information that he faced a lawsuit in the physical battery case. However, Cal doesn’t tell this to Maddie.

While sitting in front of the jury, Cal tries to explain that it was his past and he is completely fine now. But, they don’t listen after Mary interrupts him and says that they need to vote fast so that they are not late for France’s funeral. So, they vote to terminate Cal’s license.

He talks about it with Maddie and she is really furious about it. At the end, when everyone gets to know about Cal’s situation, they rally together to help him. However, one person at the restaurant tries barging in the kitchen to see Cal. It turns out Cal knew him back in the day when his life was not that good. The guy wanted to help him by beating the person who was putting him through all these situations.

Dana Sue says that he needs to get out or she’ll call the Sheriff. But, he doesn’t listen and Cal loses her mind. He drags the man out of the restaurant. The unknown man still doesn’t back away and tries to touch Maddie. That’s when Cal loses her mind and punches the guy. The police arrive and take Cal into custody.

The ending of Season 2 undoubtedly makes way for Season 3 because the stories still have a lot of potential and everyone’s standing at the crossroads.
