Contains spoilers for 'Sunny' Episode 5
KYOTO, JAPAN: Five episodes into the series and Suzie Sakamoto (Rashida Jones), the protagonist, is still unable to uncover the secrets of her husband, Masa Sakamoto (Hidetoshi Nishijima).
'Sunny' streaming on Apple TV+, revolves around Suzie, whose is shattered and grieving the loss of her husband and son in a plane crash. However, she is set onto a bizarre hunt for truth after discovering that her husband lied about his work throughout their marriage.
One of her Masa's colleagues gifts her Sunny (Joanna Sotomura), an advanced robot, to fill in the void of her family and help her recover.
Does Sunny know what happened to Masa Sakamoto in Apple TV+'s 'Sunny'?
In Episode 5 of 'Sunny,' the robot experiences a sudden and brief flashback of its creator, Masa, unzipping it from a bag and discussing taking it away. There's a sense of threat and urgency in the moment.
The memory ends sooner than expected, leaving Sunny unable to understand what was happening.
This isn't the first time Sunny recalled a faded memory. In Episode 2, the robot recalled a moment from Division 5 of Imatech. Someone was dead and the organization's staff was busy covering it up. Masa was seen on his laptop, editing a code while his colleague assured him that nobody would find out about the incident.
Why can't 'Sunny' recall his memories in Apple TV+'s 'Sunny'?
Sunny is a witness to everything that happened at Imatech and knows what Masa was up to. However, someone locked Sunny’s memory before Masa went missing.
By now, we know that something terrible happened at Imatech. It is possible that Masa locked Sunny's memory after a fateful incident to probably avoid further destruction.
When Suzie took Sunny to a local robot repair shop in an earlier episode, the owner said he couldn't alter its code because it was too advanced.
Now, Sunny is an incredibly intelligent robot with several human-like qualities. It can understand and express love, show care, and can even be sarcastic. Sunny is trying hard to access its memories, but the code is preventing it from doing so.
If only Sunny is able to recall what happened at Imatech, Suzie might be able to piece together the missing pieces of the puzzle and unravel the entire mystery. However, with five more episodes yet to release, we'll have to wait for the mystery to unfold another way.
Five episodes of 'Sunny' are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
