KYOTO, JAPAN: Apple TV+'s mystery series 'Sunny' has managed to intrigue us with the first two episodes, released on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Set in a futuristic world where domestic robots are quite common, the series revolves around Suzie Sakamoto (Rashida Jones), an American woman living in Japan.

After her husband and son go missing during a plane crash, she receives a robot named Sunny as a gift from a roboticist at her husband's electronics firm.

Sunny's task is to be Suzie's companion as she grieves for the tragedy in her life. However, as secrets about her husband begin to surface after his disappearance, she becomes determined to uncover the truth.

Suzie is shocked to discover that her husband has been lying to her about his profession throughout their marriage.

When Yuki Tanaka (Jun Kunimura) tells her that Masa (Hidetoshi Nishijima) worked as a roboticist at Imatech, she decides to attend the office party to learn more.

She manages to sneak into the restricted area where her husband used to work, leading her to Division 5, where she discovers blood stains in Episode 1.

When she visits the division again in Episode 2, she discovers that someone has tried to clean up the blood stains.

She then overhears a conversation between two employees and learns that Division 5 is no longer operational. Suzie suspects her husband may be involved in the murder that happened in the restricted area.

What is the significance of Sunny's 'dream' in Episode 2 of 'Sunny'?

In the final moments of Episode 2, we see a flashback from Division 5 where someone is dead and Imatech staff is busy covering it up.

Masa's colleague assures him that no one will find out, while Masa logs into his laptop with a secret red signature code. It is a sign to access the dark manual made to guide users to alter the default settings of domestic robots.

Sunny refers to it as a dream, but since he's a robot and can't dream, it was likely a flashback from a locked memory. From the events unfolded so far, it is possible that Sunny, designed by Masa, malfunctioned and claimed someone's life.

After the incident, Imatech helped cover up the accident while Masa changed the code to lock Sunny's memory up until the incident.

However, it remains unknown who died at Division 5 and what led to Masa's disappearance. We'll have to wait for further episodes to decode the mystery.

Two episodes of 'Sunny' are currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
