Contains spoilers for 'Sunny'
KYOTO, JAPAN: In Apple TV+'s 'Sunny', Suzie Sakamoto's (Rashida Jones) ordinary life turns upside down after her husband's alleged death in a plane crash.
While grieving, she discovers that her husband was living a secret life she remained unaware of, for a decade.
However, in 'Sunny' Episode 4, she discovers a big family secret that could help her unravel the mystery around Masa's life and apparent death.
What is Noriko Sakamoto hiding in Apple TV+ series 'Sunny'?
In Episode 3 of 'Sunny', we saw Masa's mother, Noriko Sakamoto (Judy Ongg), hesitatingly calling someone to invite for his funeral. But she disconnected before the person on the other end could pick up.
She even saved the person's number as 'Do not answer'. This gave us enough room to believe that Noriko had a secret of her own.
In Episode 4, we finally discover what she had been hiding. During Masa's funeral, Suzie learns through her husband's old pal that his father was alive.
This eventually leads Suzie to send Sunny on a mission to gather more information. At the evening, he cleverly manipulates Noriko into drinking heavily till a point she passes out.
Taking advantage of the situation, Sunny goes through her belongings and finds a document that suggests Masa's father isn't the one Suzie was told about.
Instead, Masa's real father is Hiromasa Matsumoto and alive.
How Noriko Sakamoto's secret could help Suzie discover truth about Masa in 'Sunny'
Upon discovering Noriko's secret, Suzie believes that this information could help her learn more about Masa.
Mixxy (annie the clumsy) randomly came up with a theory that Masa's father could be a Yakuza, who was either convicted or went into hiding. This would explain Hime's (YOU) presence at the funeral.
However, Suzie knows that the mystery is deeper than what Mixxy has anticipated. Hiromasa was added as Masa's beneficiary in the insurance three days prior to his death.
This could either mean that Masa was coerced into it, or he faked his own death and planned to cash the amount with his father's help. In either case. we know Masa isn't the simple man Suzie always assumed him to be.
For now, we'll just have to follow Suzie's lead to unravel what Masa was up to and why he lied to her throughout their relationship.
Four episodes of 'Sunny' are now streaming on Apple TV+
