Kamala Harris’ tweets speaking up for abortion rights after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade have not been taken well by many. After the overturning of the landmark 1973 ruling, the vice president took to Twitter to say, “I know there are women out there who are afraid. To those of you who feel alone and scared: I want you to know the President and I are fighting for you and your rights. We are in this fight together.” Harris’ tweet included a photo of herself watching news on a television while flying on Air Force 2.

She also went on to share another tweet that read: “Millions of women in America will go to bed tonight without access to the health care and reproductive health care they had this morning. Without access to the same health care or reproductive health care their mothers and grandmothers had for 50 years.”

But people did not seem impressed with her concern as one critic slammed, “So DO SOMETHING! We are not elected officials, you are just sharing the obvious when you have the power we don't!” The second one referring to her “women out there who are afraid” tweet wrote: “Please include the term ‘people with uteruses@ as not all identify as women’. Thank you for your work!” “You, the president, senators and representatives knew this was coming well enough in advance to do something. It looks to me like all you did was draft tweets for when the day came,” the third one said.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris delivers remarks during a meeting with legal experts on the pending Supreme Court decision impacting the Roe vs. Wade case at the White House complex on June 14, 2022 in Washington, DC. During her remarks Harris said the United States was founded on "principles of freedom, liberty, and self-determination. From these principles, most notably come the Constitutional right to privacy, the rights of an individual to make decisions about their life, about their family, about their family, about their body, without government interference. And so there is a lot at stake in the outcome of this decision." (Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images)

YouTuber Kendall Rae tweeted to Harris: “Just delete this honestly.” Another critic fired, “You act like the threat of overturning roe v wade is a new thing. This is the result of DECADES of inaction from your party. Why did the dems do nothing for DECADES, and you think they’re actually capable of beating people who know how to get things done?” “The Administration has known this was coming since the GOP stole another SCOTUS seat with Amy Coney Barrett. POTUS had explicit notice of this decision 2 months ago. As a Biden voter, I want to know, besides sympathy, what exactly the Admin put in place in preparation for today?” a user asked.

A tweet blasting the 57-year-old read, “It's not just women who are affected! Trans men and Non-binary people too! Not to mention what this precedent of overturning decisions based on solid privacy guaranteed by the constitution will do to the LGBTQIA+ community. Learn who you're serving.” “I voted for you & for every democrat I could & all I’m hearing and seeing are platitudes and ‘vote in November!’ This is bs. #DOSOMETHING Both you & @POTUS knew this was coming & there was nothing you could do? I’m very disappointed,” another tweet added.

Daily Kos's senior political writer Joan McCarter said, "Um. 36,000 feet above everything, watching on a big ass TV in a private plane, and the message is "we're in this together"? I'm not sure you guys get where the rest of us are at right now." Actor James Urbaniak added: "I want you to know: we are watching TV."

The June 24 ruling by the six out of nine Supreme Court justices has left many Americans outraged. Roe v Wade was in place to protect women’s rights to have abortion but the new decision has taken away that freedom from them. In the judgment, Justice Samuel Alito said, “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
