Vice President Kamala Harris recently hit the headlines after making some strong remarks where she claimed that religious beliefs need not collide with abortion rights. It would be only fair to say that she made history by breaking through the roof and becoming the first African American Vice President. However, she is often the subject of hateful and racist comments. Now, MSNBC host and commentator Joy Reid has spoken in support of Harris and how the media coverage is unfair to her and that we need to get to know our VP more.

During her interview with The Root's special 'The Culture Is: Black Woman', Joy Reid tried to normalize Harris' position and said, "She’s just a regular sister in the same way people would always say that Michelle Obama is like if your cousin became First Lady. Kamala Harris is like if your cousin became VP of the United States,” she said. “I think she doesn’t get to show that personality often enough, and so people haven’t had a chance to get to know her." Empathizing with her workload, Reid said, "The job she’s had is dead serious, and this time is so serious. Think about her portfolio, voting rights, immigration, and the border, and police reform. The things on her plate are the toughest things that the Biden Administration has to deal with outside of inflation and the war in Ukraine."

Reid went as far as to say that the reason why Harris made it to the second most important job in the land is that the Black women demanded it. She said, "Black women told Joe Biden ‘If you want our support, you can’t have it for free. We’re gonna need a VP who looks like us so that we know we’re on the team. Kamala Harris is a very important figure in our history, and her presence matters." However, she didn't take long to clarify that according to her, most of the media is still full of White males. She continued, "Most of the media is still White and male. And their take on Kamala Harris becomes the take. It becomes conventional wisdom. I was able to kick off my heels and talk real. We need more conversations like that.” While her comments were bold, the Internet wasn't happy with them.

Internet slams Joy Reid for VP Kamala Harris' statement

One user said, "@JoyAnnReid @VP Harris is a complete failure. The 1st Asian VP (she doesn't describe herself as black) lacks the knowledge of the issues, she stumbles & stammers like a blithering idiot, & even the most tragic things elicits the dreaded cackling laugh which is her calling card." Another user said, " Lol @VP is not treated fairly by the media!?! GTFO here with that!!"

One user attacked Harris' ability to do her job and said, "Harris is an embarrassment to me and probably other Americans. I believe she can’t do the job. I think one of her staffers can do better." Another user said, "Intellectually incapable of expressing anything but a tired racist narrative to excuse incompetence: #MSNBC #Joy Reid complains Kamala Harris treated unfairly by 'White, male' media: People just don't 'know her'"

One user said, "MSNBC's Joy Reid complains Kamala Harris treated unfairly by 'White, male' media: People just don't 'know her' Kamala is treated exactly like she treats others when she was in California and her entire staff is leaving because of the same problem." Another user said, "@JoyAnnReid @VP as biased as you are towards anyone conservative even Blacks you have the guts to complain about Kamala’s coverage? First of all she’s a female Biden. Gaff after Gaff. Laughs whenever she’s uncomfortable with a question."
