One of the things that made her unpopular among the fans was the way she ran the train when Wilford was not on the train during Season 1. From inheriting class prisons to the scenes where she tortures Josie, there have been times when Melanie felt like she is not what she seems to be.

After seeing her actions, fans believe that she might be the real villain of the show and as a result, she should be out of the show. One of the Redditors said that she should have abolished the class system when she took charge of the train, but she did not.

“Yup right now she’s the villain. The tail really is illegal passengers but it doesn’t change the fact that life on the train is still severely unfair. Since the old system of the class division had undeniably contributed to the freezing, they could and should abandon it while on the train, in order to up the chances of surviving the catastrophe,” one Reddit user said.

Another user wrote, Yes. After the recent episode, undoubtedly. I really just can't feel sympathy for her anymore. She's still my favorite character but only because she's so interesting, not because I support her."

Another Redditor wrote, “I will call her the reluctant villain. She designed SnowPiercer and knows what it takes to maintain it. She realizes it's not a fair scenario and will do whatever it takes to maintain order. ‘We're Engineers. We keep the world alive’.

“The first few episodes, I didn't consider her villainous. But these last recent episodes have changed my opinion about that. She seems to be going crazy to maintain the train, but all the dark secrets have to spill at some point,” one post read.

Another user stated, “I definitely consider her a villain. She is perpetuating a horrible unjust society.”
