MOSCOW, IDAHO: The roommates of the four University of Idaho students, who were stabbed to death, have still not been able to cope with their devastating loss. Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were all stabbed to death in an off-campus rental home in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. Although authorities have detained Bryan Kohberger, there are still a lot of questions that need answers.

A masked intruder allegedly carried out the crime with the help of a fixed-blade knife, police reportedly said. The two surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, have been cleared by the police. Mortensen reportedly claimed that she witnessed the suspect as he left the scene, according to the affidavit. Both Mortensen and Funke reportedly said that they were still traumatized from the events that took place that night.

'They feel a lot of survivor's guilt'

"They feel a lot of survivor's guilt," a person claiming to be a friend, who spoke to one of the roommates, told PEOPLE, adding, "Their friends are gone and they're still here. It's been really rough on them. They're going to be dealing with this for the rest of their lives."

What happened in the murder house on the night of the incident?

According to NewsNation, Mortensen first heard noises around 4 am on the morning of the murders. She reportedly opened the door and shouted, "Calm down, you're being loud!" and "I'm trying to sleep!" After that she reportedly closed the door and locked it from the inside. However, she had to open her door again when she heard more loud noises, and it was at that very moment she saw the killer walking down the hall.

Police arrest a possible suspect

Police detained Kohberger, a 28-year-old graduate student and teaching assistant at Washington State University, more than a month later on December 30, 2022. He was charged with four counts of murder and one count of felony burglary. He has not yet entered a plea and His next hearing isn't until June 26.

However, the arrest has not provided any closure to the survivors. "They've been interviewed by the cops about what they saw and heard," the friend said, adding, "But they don't have all the answers. How can they? They are happy to be alive, but just so sad about it all. And wondering if they could've done anything differently. It's heartbreaking."
