Police release statement

In a statement, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said, “The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reports one subject is deceased following a home invasion at a Hammond residence, which occurred in the early morning hours of January 8, 2023. Chief Jimmy Travis says deputies responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Klein Road shortly after 5:00 AM on Sunday.”

The statement also added that “as of this time, no arrests were made in this investigation." "Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for further review. Chief Travis concludes by adding this case appears to be a homeowner exercising second amendment rights to protect herself and her children from a violent home invasion,” the statement concluded.

‘There has to be no feeling worse than feeling horrified’

the case has attracted a lot of attention on social media with a person commenting below the authorities’ release on Facebook, “That lady did exactly what she was supposed to do to protect her and her family! Let her be and don’t go after her! How about getting her some now much needed therapy because of her needing to do this! Well done mom!”

Another person wrote, “There has to be no feeling worse than feeling horrified and fearful for your life and the lives of your children. There also is probably no worse feeling of having to take another life just to protect yourself and your children. Great job Mom for protecting yourself and your children from a career criminal. We as a collective people are tired of what is going on in society. We protect what is ours it’s our right to.” The third one shared, “Never underestimate a Momma protecting her children! Thank GOD for the 2nd amendment!”

A comment praising the woman read, "Standing firm on her rights and freedoms, this momma was able to protect herself and her babies. Justice served. And the TPSO is 100% correct in not bringing ANY charges to this mother. DO RIGHT BY THE BLUE AND THEY'LL BACK YOU!” Another person added, “Sending prayers to that momma and those babies for having to go through this in the first place. Good job momma, protecting babies at all cost.”
