Sigma was formed to ensure that the time loop was protected as much as possible. A nuclear war results in a loss of thousands of lives, with only very few surviving this attack. The ones that survive are the ones that are assigned important roles and sent back to the present to ensure that the downloader and uploader found by Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo) don't serve as a problem to the world.

What if the country got a warning about the nuclear war that is set to strike? Sigma wouldn't be formed and people wouldn't be time traveling. The main objective of Sigma is to ensure that Tae-sul has access to resources to ensure that the uploader and the downloader are made. They would then gain access to the same through the Chairman, who has now been forced to die by suicide, which would then help them have an upper hand in the future.

'Sisyphus: The Myth' Episode 8: Tae-sul wants to track and hunt down Sigma, but Seo-hae wants him safe

If Tae-sul did not die, if he escaped death and the uploader did not become a weapon in the hands of Sigma, then the war itself will not happen is what Seo-hae (Park Shin-hye), the one who lost her life the first time she tried to change the past, believes. She leaves a diary addressed to herself and that is what results in Seo-hae leaving her father in the future to come to the present with the sole intention of saving Tae-sul.

She gets injected with a substance that will end up making her disappear from the present, but not before she is left to wander in the space-time continuum for a bit. If Tae-sul were to bring Seo-hae back alive, what he would need to do is find Seo-hae in the continuum and then use the medicine that Agnes -- who is really Seo-jin from the future -- gave him. However, things don't go according to plan. Instead, what really happens is that Tae-sul gets lost in his own timeline.

There is a disturbance that he would have to escape to take Seo-hae away to the present with him safely. This is something he doesn't seem to understand but it might after all be Seo-hae who helps him. At this point, we also wonder what Han Tae-san had experienced in the hands of Agnes. He is one of the first ones close to Tae-sul, who learned the truth about how his brother was being used, and initially, he is also the one who tries to warn Tae-sul. Of course, he gets locked up in a mental asylum, and his death is set up to fool Tae-sul.

This is a truth that Tae-sul hasn't learned of yet, but one that Mr. Han, the broker who takes care of illegal time travelers, knows of. Can the two of them escape the war and really make that trip to Hawaii? If not, when is the wedding picture from?

'Sisyphus: The Myth' airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 pm KST on JTBC and can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
