Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children have not received an invitation to King Charles’ upcoming coronation but the Queen Consort's grandchildren are anticipated to be invited, as claimed by a report. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and are likely to be at the event on May 6, but several members of the family are quietly telling friends that they will give them the "cold shoulder".

Harry and Meghan left the royal family in the early months of 2020 when they stopped performing official responsibilities. Since then, they have widened the rift between them and Harry's family by making a number of shocking statements about royal life and allegations against the royals in interviews and on television. However, the Montecito, California pair, whose young children Archie and Lilibet were given the titles of Prince and Princess, are anticipated to travel to Westminster Abbey for the King's Coronation. It's been claimed that members of the Royal Family are hoping that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be "seated in Iceland" if they join the coronation as expected, reports Mirror.

The children of the Sussexes are deemed by palace officials to be too young to join the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, but they are probably going to spend a portion of the day with their son Archie — who turns four on May 6— and daughter Lilibet, as they celebrate their son's birthday, reports Daily Mail. But, the palace's move to bar them will probably raise tensions about whether or not they will want to bring their young children to the Coronation.

Who is expected to attend the Coronation?

Prince George, nine, and his sister Princess Charlotte, who will turn eight soon before the ceremony, are expected to attend — as the future King is anticipated to take on an official role. The Prince and Princess of Wales are allegedly pondering whether or not to bring Prince Louis, who will turn five in April. He is expected to show up according to the Sunday Telegraph. Queen Consort Camilla's grandchildren are anticipated to play an official part in their grandmother and step-grandfather's coronation. Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, has two children, ages 15 and 13, and her daughter, Laura Lopes, has twin 13-year-olds. She allegedly hoped that they would carry the canopy that is placed over her as she is anointed.

'I hope they'll be seated in Iceland'

A Buckingham Palace source reportedly told that it would be "wholly improper" to consider roles for the Queen Consort's grandchildren but not her husband's. Harry and Meghan will not be invited to the official balcony appearance, and many members of the family have expressed a desire to avoid socializing with the pair. "They will be given the cold shoulder by very many relatives. One said to me, "I hope they'll be seated in Iceland," stated a friend of the family. "Many of the family just want nothing more to do with them. If they have to see them at the Coronation then so be it, but they do not want to socialise with them."

Chance for some palace diplomacy

A royal expert says King Charles' impending coronation could provide a chance for Harry and Meghan to engage in some palace diplomacy. The erstwhile royals should be "respectful," according to Robert Hardman, author of "Queen of Our Times: The Life of Elizabeth II." He said to Page Six, "This is not our show, it’s his show, we are here because that’s the sort of respect for a beautiful thing to do. Private family issues aside … that’s for another day."
