The death of Evgeniia Smirnov: How a drug-fueled sex party turned fatal for Russian model
A model and two of her friends have been charged in the death of Evgeniia Smirnova, 37, who fell to her death from the eighth floor of a resort in Phuket, Thailand on May 31 during a “sex party”. Russian woman Natalia Kosenkova, 35, American man Jamaal Smith, 38, and Jordanian man Ahmad Alatoom, 28, have now been charged with recklessness causing death. They face 10 years each in prison if convicted.
According to the police, the three friends claimed that webcam girl Evgeniia was very drunk at the time of the tragedy. They said that she climbed an outside staircase between the seventh and eighth floors before falling to her death. Police chief Amphon Buarapphonand said that as per an autopsy, the model had a very high alcohol level in her blood.

However, cops are continuing a murder probe into her death, searching for evidence of any physical assault or dispute. Evgeniia was reportedly found wearing only her underwear and had fatal head injuries and a broken leg after she fell from the complex. She had human hair clutched in her hand which is being tested for DNA.
Evgeniia reportedly had social media accounts under another name until shortly before her death. She often live-streamed shows on adult sites. In one of these videos, she welcomed viewers into her closed online room, introducing herself as “a web model”.
Evgeniia was originally from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. She later moved to Moscow where she left for Phuket on May 25. Police reportedly said that evidence revealed there was a “sex, drugs and alcohol party” at the Emerald Terrace condominium complex from which the model fell to her death.
Kosenkova, a model and DJ who has now been charged in connection to Evgeniia's death, had previously said her death was an “unfortunate incident”. According to New York Post, Kosenkova once worked as a dental assistant and had traveled to Dubai and Ukraine. "The only thing I can say is that this was an unfortunate incident, but it was not a murder, and none of the people involved are to blame," she said at the time of Evgeniia's death.
Kosenkova, however, denied Thai media reports that the party involved sex and drugs. She also denied claims that police had found condom wrappers and finely-ground cannabis. “I didn’t know Evgenia Smirnova until that evening. I didn’t know the girl, she just came to the party where we were," Kosenkova said. “And she called her friend [Alatoom], who came, too, and behaved inappropriately."
“I can say that me and my friend [Smith], who I have known for a long time, behaved with dignity and decency," she added. "The police trust us. The police say they are not worried about us." She further said, "I am just a tourist here… I’ve been living here for five months. I’m an ordinary tourist. It was a regular boozefest – someone dies here every day.”
