IRONDEQUOIT, NEW YORK: Seth Larson, who was found guilty of murdering and dismembering his girlfriend two years ago, is sentenced to 25 years behind bars. The upstate New York man let the remains of the dismembered body scatter in the backyard of the pair's home.

On Thursday, March 2, a state supreme court justice gave a maximum sentence of 25 years to life to the convicted murderer for the 2021 case in the slaying of Lisa Shuler, 37, according to law enforcement authorities. In January, Larson was found guilty after a two-week trial and was convicted of one count each of concealment of a human corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree murder, as reported by Law and Crime.

Larson was listed as 'wanted' after Shuler's death

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office prosecutors stated that the dismembered body was actually discovered after one of her friends dialed the Irondequoit Police Department for a welfare check as she had not seen or heard from Shuler for a while.

On May 31, 2021, police found her body in the backyard of the couple's house which was covered by a fly-infested tarp, and other body parts were found a week later by someone who walked about a mile from their home. Investigators were able to conclude that Larson was the person of interest in his girlfriend's death. However, Larson remained 'wanted' for several days and a nationwide search for him began. Details about him and his car, a blue Nissan Juke were shared by police.

On June 3, 2021, the 41-year-old man was finally located in West Virginia when officials got his name after he called a hospital for an ambulance. The authorities verified the name through a national database and found out that he was listed as 'wanted' for the brutal murder. Larson was later arrested.

Larson 'denied' killing Shuler

Larson who addressed the court before being sentenced denied killing Shuler and suggested that her murderer remains free. However, WROC-TV reported that his statement was unwelcome by prosecutors and the judge.

First Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles said, "Everything he said just cemented the fact that assured me that the maximum sentence was the only one appropriate," and added, "To come in here and face the evidence that was presented and say somebody else did it, that the perpetrator was still out there, that he was somehow treated unfairly by the system. If I could use profanity right now, I would because it was absolute nonsense. What other word is there for what he did to a human being, especially somebody he apparently loved, lived with, and spent his life with? It’s just absolutely horrible."
