Selma Blair and her 'tremendous gift' Scout spotted taking a stroll through NYC on a chilly day
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Selma Blair was recently spotted on a stroll with her faithful pooch, Scout, in NYC on Monday, January 16. The 50-year-old actress and long-time multiple sclerosis advocate spent the day enjoying in and around the Manhattan area with her two-year-old English Labrador, whom she welcomed into her family in 2021.
As per Daily Mail, Blair had recently revealed that she used to self-medicate using alcohol to help her cope with chronic headaches, which she was frequently affected by as a school student. In her memoir, she wrote, “The first time I got drunk it was a revelation. I always liked Passover. As I took small sips of the Manischewitz I was allowed throughout the seder a light flooded through me, filling me up with the warmth of God. But the year I was seven, when we basically had Manischewitz on tap and no one was paying attention to my consumption level, I put it together: the feeling was not God but fermentation.”

She wore a dark grey coat to keep her warm on the chilly day, which had a collar trimmed in faux fur. She wore blue jeans underneath and carried a black tote bag in one hand, with her dog’s leash held in the other.
The actress’ pet has been a beacon of sunshine in her life ever since her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018. She had announced the new addition to her family through Instagram, where she wrote, “Scout helps me with some personal stumbling blocks and aids in my mobility.” She had also asked her fans to not approach them when they were spotted in public because they worked as a team to help build up her "stamina and coordination." She had spoken about her bond with Scout to PEOPLE and had called him a "tremendous gift."
She reportedly said, "It's a big undertaking, and he's still young, not yet two, but he's a tremendous gift… He's with me all the time. If I fall into a big [muscle] spasm or have some trouble moving and need to recalibrate, he can get between my legs, help me get up, and balance me. It's given me a lot of independence."
