'Time is short on Earth': Fisherman recalls terrifying moment tiger shark rammed into his kayak in Hawaii

WINDWARD, HAWAII: Fishermen frequently run into terrifying circumstances while on the water. Everyone has a unique account of how they avoided being eaten by a water beast. Recently, a fisherman in Hawaii described how he came into contact with a Tiger shark and was able to record the scary moment on video camera.

What did Scott Haraguchi encounter?

Scott Haraguchi was out in his kayak fishing In Windward Oahu, nearly a mile offshore from Kualoa,  Following his catch of a fish, he unintentionally left his GoPro on. And the terrifying events that followed were all filmed by the GoPro. "I heard a whooshing sound that sounded like a boat heading towards me without the motor and I looked up and I saw this big brown thing. My brain thought it was a turtle, but then I got slammed by it, and realized that it was a tiger shark," Haraguchi describes as per KITV.

'Time is short on Earth'

According to Haraguchi, he was able to throw the shark off of his kayak and continue fishing. Even though he was on excitement at the moment, he didn't fully get the gravity of what had transpired until he went home and watched his footage. Although he is unsure of what caused the shark attack, he claims that immediately afterward, he saw what appeared to be an injured seal. He thinks the shark might have thought the kayak was its prey. Haraguchi said he is worried about the new sightings in the interim. He claims to always go fishing with a friend and says to be grateful as well. "I realize that life is short, time is short on Earth, so make the most of it," he stated.

'Shark-proof boat?'

Users have been shocked by the terrifying moment as the horrific video has been making the rounds online. A user tweeted, "That shark did much more that ram… he was trying to get dinner." Another user said, "I’ll never trust the ocean because I have irrational fears that jaws is going to eat me just like this." One user wrote, "That’s why I carry a 44 magnum when I go to then ocean." "Shark proof boat?" a user quipped."I would have had a heart attack and died in that kayak. The shark would be like “ I ain’t even touch her. I swear!" noted another user.

Recent shark attacks

In March 2023, a Queensland fisherman named Ewan Johns, widely known online as Tiger captured a horrifying experience with dozens of bull sharks swarming his boat and feeding on fish. Johns claimed that the sharks had been tailing their crabbing boat for quite some time. Ethan Wilder, 22, a spear fisherman, was bitten by a shark on the lower leg just one week ago while spearfishing in the Upper Florida Keys near Islamorada.
