Who is Sam Dobbins? Police chief fired after caught using racial slurs, bragging about kill count
A Mississippi police chief was fired after he was allegedly caught using racist slurs in a taped recording in which he also bragged about the number of people he had shot. The tape, which also included homophobic slurs, was recorded and provided by Robert Lee Hooker, a former Lexington officer who had resigned from the force citing a toxic work environment.
The supervising officer on tape has been identified as Sam Dobbins. He reportedly can be heard boasting about killing 13 people, saying, “I shot that [N-word] 119 times.” Robert Lee Hooker gave the recording allegedly filled with racist taunts and homophobic slurs to an organization called JULIAN. The civil rights and international human rights organization then shared the tape with MCIR.

Who is Sam Dobbins?
Sam Dobbins was the head of police in Lexington, Mississippi. He was removed from the post after his alleged recording was shared. According to the statistics, Sam Dobbins was a White police officer in Lexington which is an 85% majority Black town.
In the alleged recording shared by MCIR, Dobbins can be reportedly heard talking to Hooker saying, “I have killed 13 men in my career. In my line of duty, I have shot and killed 13 different people.” He then proceeds to detail a specific incident revealing, “I shot that [N-word]119 times, OK? I saved 67 kids in a school. I chased this mother**ker across the field. I got him. He was DRT [dead right there] in the field. The vehicle was shot 319 times, but he was hit 119 times by me.” Dobbins was later contacted for the recording and addressing the same he said he was not aware of the tape. When asked whether he killed 13 people in the line of duty, he replied, “That’s something we don’t discuss, period.” When it came to slurs, Dobbins asserted, “I don’t talk like that”, as reported by MCIR.
‘Nothing personal when I said what I said’
Before Sam Dobbins coughed up the details of his killings in the line of duty, Hooker can be reportedly heard discussing hurtful comments the former had made in his presence. “Well, if you’re looking for an apology after I gave you an apology back then, you’re barking up the wrong tree," Dobbins can be heard saying in the tape” adding, “If you gonna let some words bother you, maybe this ain’t the place for you. I didn’t mean anything personal by it when I said what I said.”
According to a video shared by Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party on Facebook, Hooker said that he decided to record because he "just got to the point where you’re not doing the people right, you’re not doing right.”
