Tyre Nichols death: Bill Maher says ‘mono-focus on race’ disrupts efforts to fix ‘realer problems’ in US
LOS ANGELS, CALIFORNIA: According to HBO political talk show host Bill Maher, America's "mono-focus on race" diverts attention from some of the nation's "realer problems." The majority of the violence in recent weeks was done by non-white people, the host said on his show 'Real Time with Bill Maher' on Friday. For instance, five black police officers allegedly beat Tyre Nichols, 29, to death on January 7; in contrast, some Asian men have been responsible for two recent mass shootings in California.
While Chunli Zhao, 66, is suspected of killing seven people and injuring another in the Half Moon Bay area; Hu Can Tran, 72, shot himself after killing 11 people at a party in Monterey Park last weekend.

'Ritual of knowing race of shooter'
Maher began his panel discussion with The Free Press founder Bari Weiss and former Ohio congressman Tim Ryan, a Democrat by discussing the "rage" that has resulted from recent tragic violence. "This week, people learned the names of a couple of cities here in California, Half Moon Bay, and Monterey Park was the other one," he started. "And you know, these shootings happen. We go through this ritual where then we wait for them to announce the race of the shooter."
'Asians were killed by Asians'
Maher went on and said, "We're waiting for the Oscar nominations, because that's you know, somehow to a lot of people the most important thing." He added, "And I just thought it was very interesting that this week, Asians were killed by Asians — two Asian men who were, you know, 66 and 72. And then this week, we just got video of the Memphis Five. A black man is brutally beaten in Memphis by five cops. They're all black."
'Mono-focus on race leads to short circuit in realer problems'
The HBO host later added, "I guess what I'm asking is America's culture of violence, it does go deeper than race, right? I think this mono-focus we have on race is short-circuiting us trying to fix some of the realer problems. Would you agree?"
It's also false to assume that everything is racial, Maher continued in his show. This, in his opinion, is one of the left's major current faults. Again, when the educational system fails, people don't know a whole lot. "They have this mono-focus." "So they focus on something that's very obvious: black and white. Everyone can understand racism, and of course, it is still a real thing in this country, it's just not the only thing." He said pointedly, "Again with the woke, who pays for it, when there's less police and less competent police? A lot of people of color communities where they want more policing."
Meanwhile, some internet reacted to Maher's views with one tweeting, "I am more and more surprised by the common sense this guy has." Another responded, "But he still votes Democrat." Another user said, "ABSOLUTELY!!!! When they can divide us on race they (The powers that be) can make sure we do not unite against the real danger to us all, GOVERNMENT and the POLICE!" "Sometimes Maher makes sense. I have a love/hate about his topics. This one is on target, noted one user. One user said, "Killing in America is becoming more diverse." "That's @BillMaher, sharp as a tack stating the obvious," remarked another user.
