New details have emerged about Texas shooting suspect Salvador Ramos, who reportedly had a troubled home life and frequently quarreled with his mother, who is allegedly a drug addict.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott revealed how 18-year-old Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on Tuesday afternoon, May 24, killing 19 students and two adults, and injuring several others. The gunman allegedly shot his own grandmother before heading to the school. She is reported to have been wounded. Many have called it the deadliest shooting at a US grade school since the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012.

Speaking to The Washington Post, friends and relatives described Ramos as a lonely teenager who "was bullied over a childhood speech impediment, suffered from a fraught home life and lashed out violently against peers and strangers recently and over the years."

Where is Ramos's mother?

The current whereabouts of Ramos's mother are unknown, but his neighbor Ruben Flores told the Post that he would often have shouting matches with his mother and that police were called to their residence on several occasions. The teenager had allegedly filmed his mother interacting with the authorities and posted videos on Instagram, albeit the posts have since been deleted. "He'd call his mom a b***h and say she wanted to kick him out," his classmate Nadia Reyes told the outlet. "He'd be screaming and talking to his mom really aggressively."

Meanwhile, Flores said he had tried to be kind of a father figure to the disturbed teen, who had “a pretty rough life with his mom.” He told the Post that he saw officers at the Hood Street home and witnessed blowups between the two. Several sources familiar with the family said Ramos' mother used drugs, which contributed to the trouble at home.

Ramos's grandmother, who owns the Hood Street house, was reportedly in the process of evicting his mother over her drug use just days before the shooter's killing spree. According to Flores, Ramos had moved in with his grandmother who lived across town some months earlier. However, she would be his first victim on Tuesday. Officials said Ramos shot her before heading over to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with two assault rifles around 11:32 am local time. That said, the 66-year-old is reported to have survived after being "critically shot."

Ramos was working at a Wendy's and barely attended school during the last few months of his life. He allegedly despised the fact that he was not set to graduate this year. Speaking to local news channel Newsy, one nearby resident said he witnessed the gunman arguing with his grandmother on Tuesday, May 24, as he was "angry that he did not graduate."

The neighbor said he subsequently heard the grandmother scream, "He shot me, he shot me" before Ramos "zoomed down the street" and crashed his pick-up truck before heading to Robb Elementary. It's worth noting that the shooting reportedly took place a day after his peers had graduated. The 18-year-old was fatally shot in an encounter with the police at the school premises.
