CHISWICK, LONDON: Kim Wilde, '80s popstar, has officially split and divorced her husband of 26 years Hal Fowler, last year. The hitmaker broke the sad news in a joint statement to her fans on Wednesday night, December 21. "Kim Wilde and Hal Fowler wish to announce that they amicably separated by agreement last year and have divorced," she wrote in the joint statement on Twitter. The statement added, "No third party is involved. They remain on good terms and wish only the best for each other in the next phases of their lives. No further comment or statements will be made."

The famed 'Kids in America' singer Wilde and her writer and actor husband first met during a rock opera, Tommy, and within 6 months of seeing each other, the couple tied the knot. However after the popstar's marriage and two children Harry, 23, and Rose, 21, the British singer lived in recluse blaming her iconic 'Kids In America' track. The 1981 hit song 'Kids In America' peaked at No 2 in the UK and sold over 3 million records worldwide.

At the time the 'Chequered Love' star explained her decision and said, "I'd had enough of singing it, which is one of the reasons why I gave up. I fell out of love with it. I'd been defined by that song from the age of 20 to 36 and there was a part of that which is quite confining, so I needed to stop." She added that she needed time out as the '"turbulence" of being an icon became "exhausting" and that after the married pair decided to have a family, it seemed a "really good time" to hit pause on her music career and start a new journey.

Moreover, the blonde bombshell Wilde is back in the limelight after she recently performed on a Greatest Hits tour. In September, the star also expressed her joy admitting it is a "beautiful surprise" that fans are still loving her music and are willing to buy tickets to see her perform. In a candid interview, reported by Daily Mail, the hitmaker said "I didn't really believe that there would still be an audience for me" due to the fact that she was now a married mom-of-two while comparing herself to the 20-year-old Wilde's prominent days.

As she prepared for her nationwide tour, the popstar shared her joy over her fans continuing to support her, while remarking that many of them have "grown-up" with her. Wilde told The Mirror, "I thought all the romance of Kim Wilde was being single and 21. That is a different Kim Wilde to the one that they are being presented with. But the audiences love it, which is a beautiful surprise."
