LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ever since its debut on August 15, 2003, 'Pirates of the Caribbean' has gone on to become very succesful and has created a lot of buzz as well. Created on a mammoth budget with a number of A-listers being cast, the first three movies did splendidly but the fourth and fifth ones did not do well. A major reason being that audiences got bored of seeing the same faces, and between Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly not returning and the narratives being riddled with plot holes, the last two movies were panned by audiences and critics alike.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and originally written by screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, a sixth installment in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' saga is in works, but the real question is whether it will have Johnny Depp returning as the nonpareil Jack Sparrow?

Will Johnny Depp return for the new 'Pirates of the Carribean' movie?

The franchise's plan to create a sixth installment were put on hold due to Depp's legal troubles which caused Disney to cut ties with him. Despite that, Bruckheimer promised audiences that Sparrow would be back at some point in the future. However, if the swashbuckling pirate does not return, wroters may have to really think of a way to explain his exit, given that through the years, he has become an essential part of the franchise. The real question remains: How will the production show the end of Sparrow's story? If Depp returns, it will be a financial burden to the company as the last two movies bombed at the box office. So it might not be a great idea to bring Depp back for another movie. However, as Bruckheimer wants to keep the door open for the 'Transcendence' actor, he will have to take a chance, knowing that the actor has not given a single blockbuster in a long time, and how his reputation has been tainted after the controversial defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Will Jason Momoa play Jack Sparrow?

It could clearly help the franchise if the production replaces Depp. The problem being that he has become the face of a franchise after all these years. The production company may need someone who can make the audiences forget Depp. What if Jason Momoa is taken into consideration? He looks like a pirate, has the same vibes and can totally rock the dreadlocks and bandana look. However, as audiences have grown used to and fond of seeing Depp as the lead, the recast may make things worse for the production company. Therefore, the recasting idea goes straight out the window.

Its a stumbling block

To cast or not to cast Depp, that is the real question. Yes, it would pose a difficult situation for the sixth installment of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Although there are many reasons to discontinue Sparrow's chapter, there are a number of problems with bringing him back as the lead. Either way, the entire thing has become quite the opposite of a win-win situation. It would be exciting to see how the production company tackles the problem. If 'Pirates of Caribbean' returns after almost six years, it will just be like kicking the hornet's nest.
