'Isn’t happy hour anytime?': Shocking photos show Johnny Depp 'passed out', and drug paraphernalia
Johnny Depp testified in his $50 million defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. At the trial, the actor claimed that he was telling the "truth" for his family and children's sake. He also claimed that Heard's allegations against him have ruined his relations in Hollywood. The trial is expected to last at least six weeks. While jurors have heard several contradictory accounts of the relationship between the former pair, Heard's team has portrayed Depp as an abusive partner who was regularly into alcohol and drugs. Depp's team, on the other hand, has labeled Heard's allegations of violence as a "hoax" and claimed that it is a deliberate attempt to destroy Depp's reputation.
In new developments in the trial, the Virginia jury was shown a number of pictures displayed on Thursday, April 21, including one where Depp was seen “passed out” on a couch with ice cream spilled on his lap, and also a video of the actor going wild in a kitchen. Another photo from 2013 showed a glass of whiskey, lines of cocaine, other drug paraphernalia, and a Keith Richards CD arrayed on a table with a glass top. During cross-examination, Depp confessed that the photo was taken at a time when he had “fallen off the wagon.” A photo of four large bags of marijuana was also shown.

Depp was asked if he often drank whiskey in the morning, to which he replied, "Isn’t happy hour anytime?” On an earlier occasion during the trial, Depp testified that he had done recreational drugs with friends such as Marilyn Manson. "We’ve had cocaine together maybe a couple of times," he had said, joking, "I once gave Marilyn Manson a pill so that he would stop talking so much.”

Talking about the picture with the ice cream spilled on his lap, Depp testified that he had worked for 17 hours that day and took opioids. He went on to claim that Heard gave him the ice cream because she "knew" he would fall asleep with it. “If you’ll notice, my right hand is in my pocket, so I wasn’t participating in the festival of ice cream,” Depp said. "That was a wonderful picture for her to take," Heard's attorney asked Depp if it was Heard's fault the photo was taken, to which he replied, "Well, she snapped it.” Depp further objected to being described by the attorney as having “passed out.” “‘Passed out’ is an interesting way of putting it,” he said. “Asleep?”
Depp and Heard are squaring off over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post, where she called herself a domestic violence survivor. Depp has claimed that he was booted from the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise because Heard's op-ed clearly implicated that he was the abuser. The article, however, did not mention Depp by name. The actor sued for $50 million and Heard countersued for $100 million, claiming Depp ran a smear campaign for years in an attempt to silence her and destroy her acting career.
Depp and Heard began dating after meeting on the set of the 2011 film 'The Rum Diary'. They got married in Los Angeles in February 2015. In 2016, Heard obtained a restraining order against Depp, accusing him of abuse. Depp, however, denied the claims, saying that her accusations were a "choreographed hoax”. In 2019, the two settled their divorce out of court. At the time, Heard said she had donated her $7m (£5.5m) settlement to charity. Depp later accused her of lying about it.
