Nicholas Scurria: Pennsylvania man arrested while dismembering decapitated body of girlfriend
DELAWARE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA: A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend, whose decapitated body he was trying to dismember when cops burst into his house and arrested him. The 32-year-old, identified as Nicholas Scurria, was caught in Clifton Heights – a borough in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, early Friday morning, February 11.
Police reportedly got to know about the alleged heinous crime after getting a call from a neighbor of the accused, who heard disturbing noises and loud bangs coming through the next door. According to a police report, initially, there was a lot of screaming; it seemed like Scurria and his girlfriend were fighting but soon the noise turned into complete silence before “sawing-like sounds” and “the gathering or shifting of plastic material” were heard. The report added that a neighbor “woke up to loud screaming in the neighboring apartment.”

Soon after receiving the call, officers reportedly arrived at the scene to find Scurria with a machete in his hands trying to chop off the left leg of the woman, whose head was already cut off from her body. The alleged killer was sitting on a mattress with a roll of plastic wrap nearby when cops burst into his apartment with their weapons.
“Police witnessed the suspect attempting to decapitate the already-deceased victim using a machete,” the police affidavit added.
Clifton Heights Police Chief Tim Rockenbach said that Scurria’s dead girlfriend had gone through “severe trauma to the head and neck.” He stated, “I believe the intent was obviously to hide the crime. I've been an officer for 32 years, this is absolutely horrible. I don't even know what words I could describe to you how actually incredibly insane this is, especially in my town.”
Rockenbach added: “I believe his intent was obviously to hide the crime. And we were able to get there before he was able to flee as a result of that 911 call. Domestic violence is a major crime everywhere. Sometimes a neighbor interceding allows us to solve a crime, stop a crime or prevent a crime from happening.”
It has been reported that when the suspect was detained and put in handcuffs, he shouted, “She tried to cut my balls off.” Later, Scurria told cops that he and his girlfriend got into an argument after they broke up. He then thrashed her until she went unconscious. “During the argument he knocked the victim unconscious after repeatedly striking her in the face/head areas,” and then went on to cut up her body, the police report noted.
During the operation, officers searched the apartment but no drugs were found. It was also found that Scurria had no prior criminal records, however, a number of weapons were discovered in his home. The alleged killer has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and abuse of a corpse. The investigation into the case is ongoing and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office is taking care of it.
