'Outer Banks' Season 3 on Netflix: Is Wilderness therapy real?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Outer Banks' has been creating quite a stir for Netflix as recently the streaming giant was sued by the author who claims Netflix stole much of his content, starting from the storyline to the character arc's is incredibly similar to one of the books he has written. However, the action-adventure mystery teen drama streaming television series created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke has been already renewed for a fourth season after receiving a plethora of love for Season 3 which was released on February 23, 2023. Furthermore, 'Outer Banks' is blowing every other streaming title out of the water. The series racked up a whopping 3.15 billion minutes viewed in that time span, the biggest single-week number for any title so far in 2023. What makes the numbers even more impressive is the fact that 'Outer Banks' Season 3 was only available to half of that data-collecting window. The new episodes premiered on Netflix in February, so the majority of that 3.15 billion total came from a span of just four days. Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, is a town in the 'Outer Banks' region of the state where the show takes place. So, while Kitty Hawk as a facility to send at-risk youth to does not exist, its involvement in 'Outer Banks' illustrates a real issue. You may ask, "what?" Hold your horses, we'll explain. Wilderness Therapy is a mental health treatment strategy for adolescents with maladaptive behaviors. Wilderness programs combine therapy with challenging experiences in an outdoor wilderness environment to “kinetically engage clients on cognitive, affective, and behavioral levels.” There have been countless reports of survivors detailing varying forms of abuse, including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. To make matters worse, survivors commonly report that the camp's facilitators heavily monitor communication with the outside world, so often, being able to make mention of the inhumane treatment of families isn't an option.
A real-life instance of Wilderness Therapy
Pop culture queen Paris Hilton who is now married with many business empires to rule over was a wild child in the early 2000s, creating iconic moments, with her friends like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and Kim Kardashian. However, it didn't stay iconic for too long, as two years back in 'This is Paris' documentary, Hilton confessed claims they were caught and beaten in front of others as punishment. As a teenager, Hilton got into the nightlife scene and would sneak out and go to clubs while her family lived at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York. Her exasperated parents sent her away to various programs to straighten out where she was tortured. Nevertheless, 'Outer Banks' may be a dramatic series but it doesn't fail to highlight some of the most real parts of life.
