Fans who tuned in to the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, were outraged by the expensive gift bags given to nominees. Many rushed to social media to claim that the money should have gone to charity to support Ukraine war refugees. After numerous Hollywood celebs preached about the crisis in Ukraine in "woke" speeches,  candidates at the Sunday night ceremony were given swag bags containing $140,000 worth of products and experiences, including vacations abroad. This has made people fume at the celebrities for not actually helping Ukrainians but play-pretending.

Apparently, those nominated for Oscars receive a swag bag even if they do not win an award. This means that all 50+ Oscar nominees received $140k+ bags each, which together totals to a grand amount. Moreover, a $25,000 project from a construction company, a $15,600 four-night stay for two at a premium resort, a $15,000 three-day holistic wellness retreat, a $12,000 arm shaping operation, and a $10,000 skin treatment such as Botox are all included in the package. On hearing about the lavish gifts in the midst of an ongoing war, many fans took to Twitter to bash the Hollywood actors for accepting them despite spreading awareness about Ukraine war charity.

One user on Twitter wrote, “Whoever makes a big speech tonight about Ukraine should sell their overly expensive gift bags and donate the money to Ukraine if they feel that strongly. Thanks. #Oscars #Oscar #Oscars2022” while another said, “In 2021, Forbes estimated that the Oscar "Freebie" gift bags valued around $205,000 How about all you American actors bleating support for #Ukraine demand that these are cancelled and the money sent to support the #HumanitarianCrisis that is unfolding @amyschumer #Oscars2022” However, nobody knows whether the celebrities would actually turn the gifts down.

A user on Twitter demanded: “@AcademyAwardsHD @Oscars2022  here is a thought - instead of handing out gift bags worth $140k, donate to the people of Ukraine- Hey Actors- maybe not take home such shameful displays of wealth and donate to a real cause #shameful #Oscars2022 #Oscars #DonateTheSwagToRefugees” Another user wrote, “So you can commit misdemeanor assault on live TV, take your seat, and still go home with your $100,000 gift bag. Good to know. #EatTheRich #CelebrityPrivilege” indirectly pointing at certain celebrities who have criminal charges pressed on them.

Broadcaster Piers Morgan also went on to state, “Rather than make virtuous tearful speeches tonight about how much they care about Ukraine, it might be nice if all the Oscars presenters & nominees auction their revoltingly ostentatious $140,000 gift bags to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees.” Another user pointed out the Oscars’ ruthless gift bag by writing, “Rich elites stroking each other & given ‘gift bags’ worth over $140G’s -Imagine how many homeless children that could help Or used towards trying to end Child Trafficking 🤬 #NOTHANKS #gluttony #shameful #boycott #OSCARS #hollyweird”
