Knetz ‘embarrassed’ for Omega X members in BL K-drama, fans call out homophobia

K-pop idols Jaehan and Yechan of Omega X have been cast as a couple in the BL (boy love) K-drama 'Let Me Comfort The Boy'

Following the success of ‘Semantic Error’ starring K-pop idols DKZ’s Jaechan and Seoham of KNK fame, we have more BL (boy love) K-dramas popping up. It was previously hinted that active K-pop idols would be starring in the BL ‘Let Me Comfort The Boy’ aka ‘A Shoulder To Cry On’. It is a coming-of-age drama about Lee Da-yeol, an athletic student who dreams of becoming an archer. The drama follows his meeting with the popular student Jo Tae-hyun, who thinks he is a sociopath who cannot love because of a traumatic past. Many were shocked when it was reported that the cast included two Omega X members.

On May 19, it was announced that Omega X’s Jaehan would be playing Da-yeol while his group member Yechan is set to play the popular student Tae-hyun. It is set to premiere in September following Omega X’s comeback in June. While we have had many K-pop idols acting in BLs in the past like Holland, A.C.E’s Jun and VIXX members, idols of the same group have not acted in the same BL before, that too opposite each other. However, some netizens were against the idea as they felt it would play into the queerbaiting fanservice that idols usually do.

Knetz feel awkward about the BL casting

Other netizens’ reactions were more homophobic as they felt it would be disastrous for Omega X’s reputation while others wondered if it would be awkward for the two members who also live together. Some trolls claimed that Omega X only took up the project after seeing the success of ‘Semantic Error’ and the following newfound fame of DKZ.

Knetz made comments like, “Ugh even if it succeeds, this can become messy for the group,” and “I feel like it'll become so awkward between them…” There have been multiple members from VIXX and Pentagon who have been cast in separate BLs in the past. Ignoring the trolls, fans are celebrating Omega X’s new project and are excited to watch ‘Let Me Comfort The Boy’.

‘Booked and busy’

One fan commented, “Spire is just so smart for this. announcing this when omega x comeback is around the corner and will have everyone and their moms TUNNING IN.” Another joked, “People not knowing Omega X predicting that since both of them are from the same group their relationship will gonna be awkward or what because they acted as couple in drama???? Watch them discovers that Omega X kissing and hugging on their vlives.” Another fan said, “If you don't know anything about omega x and will continue talking shit bout them, just shut your mouth.”

One pointed out, “Yall who don't stan omega x aren't allowed to talk about the BL. It's weird as f**k all you're worried about is "what is gonna happen to jaehan and yechan after". I promise you they will be fine. One of them wouldn't have taken it if not. They are both professionals.” Another said, “Everyone saying its gonna be awkward lol i bet they gonna bond over this.” One added, “To the 8 million people discussing Jaehan and Yechan's drama on Weibo, please stan OMEGA X. Thank you.” Another fan added a reaction video, “Someone: omega x will be embarrassed omega x: .” One wrote, “The comments under this im dying … anyway omega x booked and busy and gay.”
