MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: A woman was seen pickpocketing a dead man on Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Manhattan, New York City. The incident occurred after a man was mercilessly crushed under a tractor-trailer. The victim of the incident has not yet been identified by the police.

The deadly crash happened when the victim, who was alleged to be in his 50s, was crossing Eighth Avenue at West 44th Street on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11.30 am. The video published by New York Post showed one of the spectators cheering the thief, saying, “Go ahead, gangsta! Go ahead!” A man who allegedly witnessed the crime taking place took the entire incident. Watch the video here.

The thief was seen wearing white pants and a black jacket. Some onlookers called the police to inform them about this heinous activity but could not apprehend the alleged suspect. No charges have been filed against the driver of the truck. Elma Kanefield, a therapist who lives on the Upper West Side, said, “It’s like the Gladiators. Nobody came in to stop? That’s even more disturbing."

“To see somebody dead under a truck and actually do that — that’s horrible,” said Marco Nieves, 51, a security guard at the St James Theatre on West 44th Street.

According to quick 24 news.com, “I am kinda disappointed; I didn’t think New York was the kind of place where that would happen, Sure, we’re used to being all grumpy and frustrated at each other, but we’re also supposed to stick up for each other and not like convince each other to do terrible things," claimed Theo Coope, a 25-year-old techie who lived in Manhattan until he was 18. Another man named Tommy, who also works security, said, “F***king New York, man.”

According to the New York Post, criminal activities are increasing in the country. The horrific pickpocketing incident occurred as New York City sees a surge in the number of high-profile crimes, including several stabbings, assaults, and even a pepper spray attack on the subway.

New York Police Department Commissioner Keechant Sewell claimed on Friday, October 7, 2022, that Grand larceny almost accounts for 40 percent of felony crimes across all of New York City. The statistics also show that there is a 15.2 percent jump in the number of crimes in September 2022 as compared to the prior year in the city.

Meanwhile, in another recent incident, a Mercedez driven by thieves came speeding from the wrong side of the road against the traffic in a high-speed chase on Saturday, September 3, around 4.40 pm. The robbers reportedly stole $20,000 in cash from the driver at gunpoint on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The black Mercedes-Benz driven by the thieves then crashed into an SUV following a high-speed chase. Later, the thieves stepped on the gas and pushes the SUV up onto the sidewalk, causing bystanders to flee and jump out of the way. The scene that took place on Second Avenue between 91 and 92 streets of New York City left onlookers shocked.
