NYC records season's biggest snowfall after unusually dry winter as South braces for severe weather
NEW YORK CITY: After showering the Northeast with numerous inches of snow on Tuesday, February 28, in what was described as the largest snowfall of a relatively dry winter, meteorologists expect another strong storm system to move across the country this week. A winter warning is in effect for at least 33 million people from California to the upper Midwest and Northeast. According to the National Weather Service, the storm will also blanket areas to the north and east with snow; some places in New England have already woken up to 8 inches of snow.
On Monday evening, February 27, the streets and cars of New York City were covered with a light blanket of snow. Snow continued to fall in some areas of New York State at the beginning of Tuesday, but by mid-morning the snowfall had stopped in New York City. The National Weather Service reported that 1.8 inches of snow had fallen in New York City in Central Park and up to 5.6 inches in the Bronx, reports ABC News.

New York City experiences heaviest snowfall
"New York City will be on the southern edge of the heaviest snowfall and could mix with sleet at times, limiting snowfall amounts to the 2-6 [inch] range, but still likely the biggest snowstorm of the season," the NWS said in its latest forecast. Rhode Island and all of Connecticut are also under winter storm warnings. The NWS predicted that severe snowfall in the northeast will end on Wednesday, March 1.

At Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, at least 26 flights were halted.
Ned Lamont urges people to stay off roads in Connecticut
Governor Ned Lamont of neighboring Connecticut closed all public buildings under his administration's jurisdiction on Tuesday due to the weather prediction. He asked people to avoid using the roads if at all possible in a message on Monday night. "We’ve lucked out so far this winter season with very little snow up until now, however that is looking like it will change Monday night as a significant snowstorm will come through Connecticut,” Lamont said, as per ABC7 New York.
