Who is Nicole Sanchez? 'OK Boomer' girl shows off $2M apartment months after 'Tax the Rich' post

The 23-year-old who helped popularize the "OK Boomer" meme has found herself at the center of criticism for showing off her newly acquired wealth. In her plush multi-million-dollar home, Nicole Sanchez aka 'Neekolul' gave her TikTok followers a tour of her new place. 

However, she started drawing flak from social media users who questioned her political views in light of her new wealth. Sanchez had uploaded a roughly 11-minutes-long YouTube video titled '$2,000,000 Apartment Tour! (My New Apartment)' in which showed off the home, "fancy" empty wine fridge and a Nespresso machine despite not drinking coffee. Such is the backlash received by the video that on YouTube, it has more dislikes (13K) than likes (2K).

'Flex on the poor'

In the comment section, people weren't holding back from calling her out, especially since she had just recently also made a dancing video in a sweater sold by Democratic Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which had the words 'Tax the Rich'.

"lmao I wonder how many homeless people she can see from her $2,000,000 apartment," one user commented under the YouTube video. Another user called her out saying, "She is an excellent example of someone with ZERO self awareness." Another taunted her, "Man she is so considerate she says “tax the rich” and buys a 2 million dollar apartment she wants be taxed herder 😍👍" 

"The overwhelming majority of people who endorse socialism love living their capitalist lifestyles," one more said. "Instead of "Tax the Rich" I'm gonna make you a new sweater that says "Flex on the Poor". LMAO." another said.

On Twitter too, it seems like no one was having it. "They’re always socialist until it’s their money and not someone else’s," one user shared. 

Some users called for similarities between her and Bernie Sanders. "Socialists and communists will always redefine what “rich” is, once they acquire the amount of wealth they once deemed as “too much”. Bernie did it, and now you’ve done it. It always happens." It is particularly noteworthy as Sanchez actually made her name supporting Sanders. 

Who is Nicole Sanchez? 

For the uninitiated, Sanchez went viral in March 2020 when a TikTok video of her dancing in a blue Bernie Sanders shirt caught the attention of Millennials and Gen Z. Popularly known as Neekolul, the 23-year-old is a content creator and Twitch streamer. 

Ever since, the former business and marketing major has earned herself millions of followers across social media channels that support her life updates, gaming ventures and cosplay. The 'OK Boomer' video was shared widely across several social media platforms. This was weeks before Sanders dropped out of the presidential race. In April 2020, Sanchez tweeted out that her "OK Boomer Girl" received more than 50 million views.
