'Obscene': 'The Crown' crew 'disgusted' after shooting scene where Princess Diana lies in open casket
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Elizabeth Debicki was reportedly forced to lie in an open casket and portray the deceased Princess Diana, which has reportedly upset the cast and crew of Netflix's 'The Crown'. Unsettling parts of the drama's upcoming season's script might ignite new conflicts with the streaming behemoth.
According to The Daily Mail, Season 6 will have scenes showing medical personnel covered in blood attempting to rescue Diana, a distressed Prince Charles after discovering her body and Princes William and Harry at the funeral. There were concerns about how William and Prince may react to the images of Diana's last moments before her 1997 Paris automobile disaster. The Sun was informed by onlookers that some cast members were clearly disturbed. “They actually made Elizabeth climb into a coffin and play dead as Diana. Viewers will see a French priest administering the last rites for Diana as she is pronounced deceased. Prince Charles [played by Dominic West] enters the room and is in floods of tears. In his hysteria he notices that Diana is missing an earring. It is all he can focus on as grief envelops him,” an onlooker repprtedly said.

The onlookers added, “Princes William and Harry never saw their mother dead in a coffin and they shouldn't have to watch this. Nor should the British public.” Crew members were reportedly worried that the producers and scriptwriters went too far in their quest for high ratings and they hoped that the public outrage would force them to get rid of these scenes. An observer reportedly remarked, “Everyone was very uncomfortable doing the shoot. It is obscene and should be banned from broadcast.”
The upcoming season would feature “sick” footage of Diana being treated by anxious doctors while lying on a table. The contentious drama, which has recently come under fire for sensationalism and inaccuracies, would not include the "exact moment" of the accident, according to Netflix. Ken Wharfe, Diana’s former bodyguard, predicted that King Charles and William would be disgusted by the events, calling them "repulsive."
Diana's close friend, Debbie Frank, warned that the producers of the show would be charged with “insensitivity” due to the Paris shoot. It would be "terrible," according to Frank, who was Diana's astrologer, for William and Harry to witness a reenactment of the events preceding their mother's demise. “It's obviously terrible for Diana's children to have to see that again. It's insensitive,” she said, as reported by Daily Mail. She added. “I feel Diana's death and the crash was the biggest shock our generation. It had such a huge impact across the national psyche. I guess the makers of The Crown feel they are entitled to show a re-enactment of scenes leading up to her death and that it has dramatic impact. But relatives would think otherwise.”
