A Nebraska woman with two uteruses gave birth to youngest baby to be ever born at the Nebraska hospital. Megan Phipps, 24, was born with a rare condition called uterine didelphys. Megan, who has two older children from two previous pregnancies, had always believed that one of the uteruses was inactive. Earlier this year, she discovered that she was pregnant in both uteruses at once meaning that she had growing babies in both her uteruses at the very same time.

Megan went into early labor and delivered both the babies at just 22.5 weeks in June at Bryan Health, Lincoln, Nebraska. Unfortunately, one of her babies could not survive and died after 12 days at the hospital. Baby Reece, however, made it through with some medical attention.

Megan had a tough pregnancy with her condition and went into labor during her second trimester itself. The condition had not been of much concern during her earlier pregnancies but things got trickier when she got pregnant in each of them. The condition, known as uterine didelphys, is in itself is rare and happens to one in thousand women. Getting pregnant in both uteruses, however, is an extremely rare phenomenon and is estimated to happen to one in 50 million women.

Megan went to Byran Hospital complaining of excruciating pain when she was only 22 weeks pregnant and in her second trimester. She went into labor and gave birth to her 22-week old twins, Riley and Reece, both weighing under a pound each. Riley suffered from complications and passed away after twelve days of medical attention. Megan's second twin Reece was taken to the NICU where she went through blood transfusions and ventilator support for a total of 45 days. On November 2, the mother and child were both discharged from the hospital making Reece the youngest surviving baby to have ever been born at that hospital.

Reece weighed a healthy 8 pounds at the time she was discharged. She would have to come back for some follow-up medical care due to her complications at birth. Hospital staff at the Bryan Hospital have all talked about how much of a miracle this baby was and Megan has made it known that she is proud of her baby who kept fighting and is now returning home in good health.
