Pets deserve all our love and care because they are the most lovable and adorable creatures in the world. The National Pet Day is observed every year on April 11 to highlight the importance of pets in our lives. This special day is intended to raise awareness about pet health and honor the special relationship between animals and humans.

The relationship between a pet and its owner brings much happiness and positivity in life. The connection between humans and creatures that cannot speak is the ultimate gift of God. It is a day to take special care of your pets and shower them with endless love.

History and significance

Colleen Paige, an animal lover and reformer, created National Pet Day in 2006 to recognize the joy pets bring to our lives. Today, animal lovers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Israel, Scotland and several other countries celebrate National Pet Day. The significance of National Pet Day is that it celebrates the righteous goals of pet ownership and prevents the suffering of animals.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 6.5 million pets enter shelters each year. National Pet Day brings this awareness to the public to encourage people to adopt animals instead of buying them.

Caring for pets can improve mental health

1. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), interacting with animals or keeping a pet has been shown to lower cortisol levels (a stress-related hormone) and blood pressure.

2. Caring for pets can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and lift mood. One Twitter user wrote, "There's a special place in hell for those who abuse animals, and a special place in heaven for those who save them."

3. Regular walks or playing with pets can lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Good physical health is also likely to improve your mental health and stability.

4. The company of a pet can help relieve stress and anxiety. Pets are affectionate, loyal and honest. Playing with them and spending more time with them can promote feelings of happiness and joy.
