House Speaker Nancy Pelosi crashed the House impeachment manager's post-trial press conference on Saturday after Republicans voted to stop Donald Trump from being convicted for "incitement of insurrection." At the receiving end of Pelosi's raging outburst was Mitch McConnell. According to reports, McConnell took the Senate floor after Democrats failed to reach the two-thirds votes required to convict Trump. He argued Congress no longer had jurisdiction over Trump's actions as he is no longer in office.

An infuriated Pelosi outlined the events where McConnell had refused to accept the impeachment article against the former President on January 11, a week after the U.S Capitol was attacked by an angry mob believed to be Trump supporters. "So for him to get up there and make this indictment against the president and then say, 'but I can't vote for it because it's the fact.' The fact that he established! The fact that he established that it could not be delivered after the inauguration," she said.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) raps her gavel after the House voted to impeach U.S. President Donald Trump for the second time in little over a year in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol January 13, 2021 in Washington, DC. The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump on the charge of “incitement of insurrection" after a mob attacked the U.S. Capitol where Congress was working to certify the Electoral College victory of President-elect Joe Biden on January 6. 10 Republicans voted to impeach (Getty Images)

Pelosi also called out Republicans for voting to stop Donald Trump from being convicted. "But what we saw today was a cowardly group of Republicans who apparently have no options because they were afraid to defend their job.. respect the institution in which they serve," she said. She continued, "Oh these cowardly senators who couldn't face up to what the president did and what was at stake for our country are now going to have a chance to give a little slap on the wrist."

Pelosi claimed Republicans voted to not convict the former president as they "can't get another job," and wanted to make sure they are elected again. She continued, " All the things he said, oh my gosh, about Donald Trump and how horrible he was, and is, and then they say but the time that the House chose to bring it over! no we didn't, you chose not to receive it," she said.

McConnell suggested that even though Congress couldn't pursue charges against Trump, he could still be held criminally liable. "He didn't get away with anything yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation and former presidents are not immune from being accountable by either one," he said. 57 senators voted to convict Trump but fell short of 10 more votes that were required to stop him from being acquitted. "They stormed the Senate floor. They tried to hunt down the speaker of the House," McConnell said after the chamber had voted. "They built a gallows and chanted about murdering the vice president. They did this because they’d been fed wild, falsehoods by the most powerful man on earth because he was angry he lost an election. Former President Trump’s actions preceding the riot were a disgraceful dereliction of duty," he added, despite voting for Trump to be acquitted citing technical grounds, according to a Daily Mail article

Pelosi had tried to leave the conference on two occasions but she returned to the podium livid to express her thoughts. "Remember when he talked about, when he talked about incitement, he said he didn't think this rose to the level," she said. "So he was hedging all over the place." She further added, "I don't know if it was for donors, or what, or whatever it was, it was a very disingenuous speech and I say that regretfully because I always want to be able to work with the leadership of the other party."

After Pelosi's outrage, Republican supporters took to Twitter to clap back at her and the statements she made at the press conference. "The country saw what a joke the Democratic Party had become. Pelosi's House Impeachment Managers' press conference following the acquittal and calling the defense a farce was laughable! America and the Constitution wins!" wrote a user. "Imagine if the Red Sox manager rolled up to a press conference and said Yankees need to get their shit together and become a better team. Now ask yourself why the f**k does anyone support Pelosi?" read another tweet. "Pelosi hijacking the manager's press conference where she went full nuclear meltdown at losing again was very very funny. A full-on rant beamed worldwide. I expected men in white coats to drag her off to a secure unit" tweeted another user. "I am starting to worry about Nancy's mental health after watching her press conference earlier today. I wonder if she is fine..." read another tweet.
