'Murdaugh Murders': Buster Murdaugh was accused of allegedly killing classmate and rumored boyfriend Stephen Smith in 2015
HAMPTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA: There was a time when Alex Murdaugh and the entire Murdaugh family were considered to be bigger than the law. However, after Mallory Beach’s death, Alex’s life came crashing down, and was held accountable for all the dirty work he did in his life. Alex is currently behind bars for allegedly killing his wife Maggie and son Paul and committing financial fraud, but he’s not the only one from the family who has been accused of murdering people. The latest Netflix documentary, titled ‘Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal’, primarily focuses on various members of the Murdaugh family and one of the most intriguing moments of the docuseries came when it was revealed that even Buster Murdaugh was also accused of murdering a young man in 2015.
After it is revealed that Alex might be responsible for Maggie and Paul’s death, we travel back in time and get to know that the Murdaughs has a really dark past. They have been accused of murder a couple of times in the past as well, but the most horrifying incident happened in 2015 when Buster’s classmate named Stephen Smith was found dead in the middle of a road in Hampton County.

Who was Stephen Smith?
According to Miley, who was studying in the same school, Stephen Smith was a “really sweet person” and was always happy. Meanwhile, one of Stephen’s best friends Olivia, also noted that he was really funny and admired his personality so much. She added, “He was really funny and I admired his personality so much because he just did not give a s**t about what people thought about him. He was always himself. He was always, like, dancing around, singing, and you know, just hilarious.”
The documentary also revealed that Stephen was openly gay.
As the docuseries progresses, it is revealed that Buster might be in a relationship with Stephen and was intimate together. But we already know how powerful the Murdaughs were, so as soon as their name got mixed into it, the case took a U-turn and everyone started making sure that they had nothing to do with it.
Were Buster and Stephen in a secret relationship?
So, the rumors or stories swirling around the town were that Buster and Stephen were in a “secret relationship” together and they were ready to tell this to Buster’s family. These rumors started to come out strongly when it was revealed that Stephen called Buster to help him out when his car ran out of gas.
“Rumor goes Stephen felt comfortable enough to call Buster for help, and Buster just so happens to be in the area on the way from a softball tournament with his friend. I believe that he picked Stephen up and was fooling Stephen into thinking they were taking him home, but I think they got a little way down the road and that’s when it all started to unravel,” Olivia said during the documentary.
Things got weirder when Randy Murdaugh, the brother of Alex Murdaugh, took this case, and that too free of charge.
Unfortunately, nothing happened in the case and it was never investigated. The case just faded away.
