WALTERBORO, SOUTH CAROLINA: Dick Harpootlian, the defense attorney of Alex Mudraugh, pointed a rifle at the prosecution bench and said it was "tempting" leading the court to be in full-on laughter. The instance happened as the lawyer was trying to explain the crime scenes.

Harpootlian is also a Democrat party senator. He tried demonstrating how the killer held the AR-15-style rifle while trying to kill Maggie. However, the lawyer has been quite famous for his hilarious and tone-deaf courtroom encounters. Murdaugh, 54, is on trial for double murder charges concerning the deaths of his wife and son Paul, which happened at the family's hunting estate at Moselle on June 7, 2021. His wife was killed with a .300 Blackout semi-automatic rifle, while his son Paul was murdered with a shotgun.

What happened inside the court during the trial?

The act of Harpootlian led to immense laughter inside the court premises. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson laughed at Harpootlian's act; however, others at the prosecution table, such as Creighton Waters, remained unresponsive, as per Daily Mail. He had created laughter in the court even before. He had previously demonstrated gunshots on his colleague with a yardstick while cross-examining a pathologist and then told him to sit down as he uttered a dialogue, "But don't put your jacket on, I may not be done with you yet." The democrat senator also made fun during a witness testimony requesting the prosecutor to scold him. During the same occasion, he jumped and told the lawyers, "John Meadors should be addressing the witness - not him". Adding further, he said, "If I found the question humorous, I'm sorry."

'Absolutely Disgusting'

The Internet quickly reacted to the incident. A user said, "I wish everyone would stop mindlessly laughing whenever he cracks a lame joke." Another claimed, "Absolutely distasteful as he was the day with Tony Satterfield!." A comment read, "That’s what I’ve been saying all day. How did Judge Newman or Creighton Waters not intervene and say something? It’s disgusting." "Very disturbing. Never assume a gun is not loaded especially if it belongs to AM who had loaded guns all over the place," said another user.

Another noted, "I was left speechless. I have to be honest, I’m not usually speechless w/regards to DH. I really don’t like my perception of him. But this was too much. On every level." "This was deplorable. He needs to be sanctioned for this as well," claimed another. A tweet read, "Couldn't understand why someone in that courtroom didn't stop him!!! Judge should've addressed him!." "So inappropriate, especially in the middle of a trial of someone accused of murdering two people by brutally shooting them," said a user. A comment stated, "Absolutely disgusting.I hope Maggie’s family is not there for this circus. How disrespectful. And knowone in the court room said anything."
