WALTERBORO, SOUTH CAROLINA: Videos of Alex Murdaugh calmly tellling police that a 'nice-looking man' had shot him in the head surfaced during Murdaugh's double murder trail after he already confirmed that he hired his drug-dealer cousin to shoot him in the head. 54-year-old Murdaugh is accused of shooting his wife Maggie and son Paul death at their residence in Moselle in South Carolina on June 7, 2021.

Three months later, on September 4, 2021, Murdaugh was shot in the head by his cousin, Curtis Eddie Smith in a life insurance scam intended to earn his surviving son Buster a million dollars. The incident took place on a rural Hampton County road.

Shortly after that, Murdaugh called 911, and he said, "I got a flat tire and I stopped, and somebody stopped to help me and when I turned my back they tried to shoot me." Murdaugh suffered a surface wound and was taken to an ambulance, then police arrived and escorted him into the vehicle. He calmly told the police that "a nice-looking man" approached him offering help with the flat before shooting him.

What's the truth?

The information about the incident is a bit contradictory. A week after the incident, Murdaugh told authorities that he had hired his 61-year-old cousin, Curtis Eddie Smith, to shoot him in order to obtain $1 million in insurance for his son, Buster. The 911 call Murdaugh placed that day, however, revealed that he had initially described his alleged shooter as a "younger," "white fella" with "really, really short hair."

Despite his injury, Murdaugh made clear statements about how he believed he was hit by a shotgun. He said he believed the shooter was in a dark blue Chevy or GMC pickup truck and mentioned that he briefly lost his vision afterward. He further described the suspect as a 'very nice looking male'," between 30 and 40 years old, with short-cropped hair.

'Alex is sounding mighty coherent for someone shot in the head'

After viewing the clips, the Internet is questioning Murdaugh. People accused him of lying about the whole headshot situation. A person tweeted, "#AlexMurdaugh looks almost amused while listening to Kelly recount the roadside incident & subsequent events, like he’s thinking “Oh y’all remember when I lied about how a handsome outdoorsman shot me in the head & I briefly went blind, that was so silly…” #MurdaughTrial". Others are shocked at how he was not at all shaken after being shot in the head. A user tweeted, "Alex’s is sounding mighty coherent and consistent for someone shot in the head". To this another user commented, "And not in any type of shock."
