'Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal': Paul Murdaugh 'loved' housekeeper Gloria more than his mom, kept her pic in his wallet
HAMPTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA: Alex Murdaugh and his family were untouchable and sometimes, even bigger than the law. However, the tragic death of Mallory Beach in 2019 changed everything and was the beginning of the end for the powerful family. The investigation into Mallory’s death didn’t only put the Murdaugh family under the scanner but also forced the law enforcement authorities to open old cases in which various members of the Murdaugh family were the prime suspect. One such incident happened in 2018 when the longtime housekeeper of the Murdaughs named Gloria Satterfield died mysteriously in a Hampton County home belonging to the family.
The death of Gloria was really shocking as Maggie Murdaugh, the mother of Paul Murdaugh, called 911 and said the 57-year-old woman died “as a result of injuries sustained in a trip and fall accident”. The death of the housekeeper came as heartbreak to Paul because he loved Gloria and cared for her.

Gloria gave Paul the love that his mother never did
According to Paul’s friends, he never wanted to become a lawyer like his father Alex, and was more like the “black sheep of his family.” Paul thought that he was a big disappointment to his family and didn’t get the love that he always wanted from them. This is where Gloria stepped in and gave him all the love and acceptance he needed in his life. Gloria had been working for Paul’s grandparents as well and that’s why Alex and Maggie also wanted her to take care of their children.
As per Paul’s ex-girlfriend Morgan, the housekeeper was Paul’s second mom and basically raised him. Morgan said, “Paul really clung to her because Gloria gave Paul what Maggie didn’t.” On the other hand, Anthony noted that Gloria “took care like no family member ever did and would have walked off the end of the moon for Paul Murdaugh.”
Meanwhile, Morgan’s parents believe that Paul loved Gloria more than he loved his mother and the only photograph he had in his wallet was of Gloria. The housekeeper used to keep Paul at bay and he always felt someone was there for him. So, it didn’t come as a shock when Gloria died Paul felt really weak and thought he won’t be able to see the person who loved him the most.
Why was Gloria’s murder investigation reopened?
A lot of people believed that Maggie allegedly killed Gloria by pushing her down the stairs and whenever she was in public, people started saying, “Here goes Maggie murder.” However, Maggie told everyone that Gloria was tripped by their dogs and fell down, resulting in her death.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) revealed that the Satterfield family has agreed to ‘exhumation’. Exhumation means “the action of digging up something buried, especially a corpse.”
